The Grapevine (6/3/15): Tyson Kidd, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles

Good morning, everyone!

We're introducing a new daily segment here on Smark Henry called the Grapevine. True to its name, it's simply just a daily round-up of the (highly unconfirmed) dirt and rumors from the cartoon world of pro wrestling that you may have missed from the day before. We'll also be giving our quick opinion on each "news" item just to help you process it. Do remember, however, that all of these are unverified by virtue of being rumors, so always take everything with a grain of salt.

For today, we've got:

  • Tyson Kidd appears to be injured after a pre-RAW match versus Samoa Joe. The news of the match was already broken all over the Internet as early as Monday night, but reports say Kidd was apparently injured in the neck and collarbone. Cesaro rushed down to check on him and Natalya went to the back for assistance, and then the referee threw up the X to signify an actual injury.

We say:
It's possible that throwing up the X could have been a work to get Joe over; if it was, then that makes us uncomfortable because the X should be kept sacred. But it's also possible that it wasn't, because why would the WWE waste it on either a dark match or a Superstars match? An injured Kidd might partly explain why K-Swiss dropped the titles to the New Day and haven't gotten it back since.

  • Speaking of Samoa Joe, he will finish his remaining indy dates before being exclusive to WWE. We broke last week that Joe is returning to ROH and it might signify a contract that allows him to work wherever he wants, but apparently Vince McMahon and Triple H pushed for an exclusive full-time contract after Destination America announced that they'd be getting ROH.

We say: Makes sense. Since ROH and DA completely blindsided the entire wrestling world with their announcement, it's only reasonable that WWE would want to avoid showing one of their bigger names on a different show that's also broadcast nationally. We suppose the "Joe deal" is no longer what it was last week.

  • And while we're on the subject of ROH and TNA, AJ Styles reportedly turned down an offer to be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame this year. It would have been an induction and a final match at this year's Slammiversary, but AJ turned it down, citing ROH and NJPW as his priorities at the moment.

We say: Not much to say here, really. TNA is obviously trying to cash in on AJ's newfound popularity, which they never really got behind. You know how the saying goes: don't know what you got 'til it's gone.
