#ThrowbackThursday: RVD Cashes In Against John Cena

We gotta say that the "Money In The Bank" concept is one of our favorites in the WWE, not just for the wild card it throws into the WWE championship picture for one whole calendar year, but because of the actual heartstopping ladder matches where it's actually won.

We especially love the out-of-nowhere surprise cash-ins. Edge used them to establish himself as the "Ultimate Opportunist," while Seth Rollins used one to catapult himself from just being "Architect of the Shield" to becoming the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Edi wow.

These blindside cash-ins are what dominate our memories , but on this day, June 11, nine years ago, the 2006 Mr. Money In The Bank Rob Van Dam made good on his history-defining move of being the first man to announce a date and time for his actual cash-in in advance by defeating John Cena for the WWE Championship in a wild and wooly all-out brawl at the One Night Only pay-per-view in one of his old ECW stomping grounds, the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Too bad RVD would go on to lose the WWE Championship less than a month later—not to mention the ECW World Championship he had also been holding concurrently—as supposed punishment for a drug possession bust.

But for one glorious night, "The Whole F'n Show" was king of the whole f'n world. Check out the match below and let us know in the comments what your favorite MITB cash-in was.
