The Grapevine (7/17/15): Edge in the Flash Season 2, Jushin Liger Competing at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn

Good morning, everyone! And selamat hari raya to our Muslim smarks! Welcome to the Grapevine, and for those who need to catch up, here's today's round-up of the (technically unconfirmed) dirt and rumors from the cartoon world of pro wrestling that you may have missed from the day before.

Here's a recap of what you missed in wrestling news while you were sleeping:

  • Japanese legend Jushin "Thunder" Liger will be facing Tyler Breeze at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn on August 22. WWE and NXT broke the news on tha Twittah this morning, 12 hours after it was first announced that Liger was simply appearing at the WWE Network special. This will also be Liger's first time to work for WWE.

We say: Holy shit. Triple H is really bringing out the big guns for this Takeover special, and we're all in to support this! While not all of us at the Smark Henry offices are believers of Tyler Breeze's potential to be the next big thing at Full Sail, he might just get his chance to prove it in front of the whole world against a legend in Jushin "Thunder" Liger. Needless to say, NXT Takeover: Brooklyn is being set up to be a must-see event. Mark your calendars for August 23 (Manila time).

  • WWE Hall of Famer Edge has been cast for The Flash Season 2. He'll be playing Al Rothstein/The Atom-Smasher, and he'll be in the show as early as the season premiere in October! Unlike the comics, the TV version of the Atom-Smasher will be one of the most powerful heels that the Flash and his S.T.A.R. Labs teams will encounter. (Source:

We say: This is great news for all of us wrestling and comic book fans! A good number of us at the Smark Henry offices are huge fans of The Flash, so to see Edge—another Smark Henry favorite among the legends—in the show is another great reason to catch the show when it returns this October. It's also great that Edge is getting a chance to pursue roles other than Dwight in Haven, which only means that his acting career is going places. Not bad for a guy who used to call himself Sexton Hardcastle.

What do you think? Are you excited to see Edge take on Grant Gustin? Could this lead to a bigger partnership between the CW's comic book shows and WWE—as if the Stephen Amell thing wasn't big enough? Are you cool with Tyler Breeze being Jushin "Thunder" Liger's opponent at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn? Hit us up in the comments section!
