Knees 2 Faces: Alex Shelley Gets His Teeth Broken

So, while most of us were marking out over NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, Ring of Honor was busy holding its Field of Honor live event. This was a special card because a large NJPW contingent would be competing, making it seem like a continuation of the Global Wars and War of the Worlds crossover events earlier this year. With names like Kazuchika Okada, Shinsuke Nakamura and Hirooki Goto competing against ROH mainstays Jay Lethal, Roderick Strong and reDRagon, this was a stacked card.

One of the matches pitted NJPW tag team Time Splitters (Alex Shelley and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion KUSHIDA) against ROH's Briscoe Brothers. Unfortunately, it looks like Alex Shelley had a rough night:

Ouch. Wait, he's got more details though:

Jesus. So the one thing Shelley prepared for, with mouthguard and all, actually happened.

Not sure if this is a good thing for Mark Briscoe in that his knees really hurt, or a bad thing for whoever made the mouth guard. You had one job, guys.

The only proper place to see spots is at a Dusty Rhodes tribute.

Damn. Alex Shelley hasn't exactly had a healthy career (NJPW fans will remember he got pulled out of this year's Best of the Super Juniors tournament), and this is just the latest in a long line of injuries. That last tweet is just heartbreaking. Shelley is a very capable talent, and it'll be a shame if he hangs up his booths. If he does plan on doing so in the near future, I hope we at least get to see Alex Shelley vs. KUSHIDA in NJPW.

Get well soon, Alex Shelley.
