The Grapevine (8/6/15): Axelmania Back

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the Grapevine, and for those who need to catch up, here's our round-up of the (technically unconfirmed) dirt and rumors from the cartoon world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

Big news on the TakeOver front, but it isn't a rumor, so we'll lead with other things:

  • After reverting Curtis Axel's profile to his old self in the wake of Hulk Hogan's purge from the company, the website is now showing him as Axelmania again. No update on when Axelmania will appear again (or if Damien Sandow will remain Macho Mandow with him).

  • NXT Diva KC Cassidy, nee Cassie McIntosh from Australia and Lance Storm's school, has been getting rave reviews from fans and officials. So far, you've seen her in action against the likes of Dana Brooke and Eva Marie.

We say: It's not hard to see why. If you're wondering why she's been in a jobber role more, it's because you need good workers to make your greener prospects look good. But the cream always rises to the top, and I don't doubt that she'll be one of NXT's top Divas, or at least in the championship mix, by 2016. It's actually a good look after the former top three have been called up.

  • We reported last Friday that there was an original pitch back in the day that Brock Lesnar could have been a gay character. J.R.'s disputing on his blog that it didn't happen, and that it's "another absurd tale from the IWC." However, it was confirmed by former WWE writer Seth Mates on his Twitter account, apparently stating that anyone could pitch ideas without it being immediately official.

We say: We still agree that it would have been a progressive character, but we doubt that Lesnar wouldn't have liked it. Why not give it to someone who was actually gay, like, say... Darren Young?

What do you think? Do you want to see Axelmania back? Would you root for a gay wrestling character who breaks the mold of how you think of gay people? Let us know in the comments!
