The Grapevine (8/7/15): All Girl Everything

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the Grapevine, and for those who need to catch up, here's our round-up of the (technically unconfirmed) dirt and rumors from the cartoon world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

Per the title, we've got some interesting rumors coming out that concern the ladies of the wrestling world:

  • First off, there is talk of possibly creating a Divas Tag Team Championship going around in the WWE. This comes with the new emphasis on women's wrestling and the sudden overcrowding in the Divas division. (Source: WON)

We say: If you're going to shine the spotlight on nine women in the division (and that's not counting the random stragglers and hangers-on around the males, and the NXT Divas waiting in the wings) you should definitely give them something else to compete for other than a single championship. While it's possible, it's not feasible to have all of these ladies fight for one thing, even if the storyline focuses on toppling the reign of one team. Give the random tag combinations that are happening on RAW another logical anchor with a new set of titles.

  • Ring of Honor is reportedly looking to produce an all-women test show called Women of Honor. This is after some of their women's matches in recent shows got great reactions. They're looking to bring in more joshi from Japan, and while this wouldn't be a new division in the company just yet, they're also planning for these matches to be part of their DVD releases. (Source: WON)

We say: We believe that women's wrestling needs more emphasis, and if Impact Wrestling's future is uncertain, ROH would be the next best place for exposure for up-and-coming female wrestlers. We also believe that ROH needs something new beyond their NJPW partnership to spark some real interest in them again, and we're all for any good new ideas.

  • Eva Marie is rumored to be getting the push that was meant for Lana. The idea is to build a storyline around her as the terrible model-turned-wrestler who is now working hard to improve her skills. (Source: WON)

We say: We actually like this move, if only because of the fact that even though people love Lana a lot, Eva Marie is definitely way more ahead in her in-ring training. If Lana is training to become a wrestler, they should give that a little more time to cook. Let's hope that Eva isn't pushed all the way to the top of NXT (or even the main roster)—she should be given something that naturally complements the realistic pace of her improvement. We waited with bated breath.

What do you think? Would you want to see a Divas tag title, a la TNA (but hopefully without the dreadful booking)? Let us know in the comments!
