The Grapevine (9/15/15): We Still Don't Know Who's Winning The Divas Title Tonight

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the Grapevine, where we round up the (technically unconfirmed) rumors from the wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

Some Divas Championship dirt right before it happens on RAW right now:

  • If Nikki Bella retains the Divas Championship tonight on RAW, it will most likely be due to her boyfriend John Cena's influence. We've mentioned before that the original plan for Charlotte was to win the title on her main roster debut, but those plans were nixed due to Cena angling for Nikki to at least break AJ's record. It seems that Creative has gone back and forth as to what will happen in Charlotte's shot over the past few weeks, and we don't know what the final decision will be until we see what happens on today's episode. We say: While we do want something exciting to happen with the championship, some of us won't mind if Nikki does retain tonight. Losing it now would make for a slightly awkward, if not intriguing scenario for Night of Champions on Sunday. Some of us didn't really mind the breaking of the record; the bigger issue with Nikki's reign (and the Diva Revolution as a whole) was that there were too few defenses, making the stakes seem nonexistent.

  • And speaking of women winning championships, the NXT brain trust still seem dead set on making Eva Marie the next NXT Women's Champion. Other than running a story in which Eva Marie proves everyone wrong by working hard enough to deserve the title, they feel that she could be a "super marketable hot Superstar." (Source: WON)

We say: When did Vince/Johnny Ace/Kevin Dunn have a say in NXT?

  • While Cena isn't running for president next year, Hall of Famer Jesse "the Body" Ventura is actually considering doing that. Ventura, who's been governor of Minnesota from 1998 to 2002, stated on an interview with the newspaper Star Tribune that he's thinking of running without being formally part of a political party. He previously talked about running on fellow WWE Hall of Famer Donald Trump's presidential ticket, but received no invitation from them. (Source: Star Tribune)

We say: While we here at the Smark Henry offices know little about American politics, if the Body can manage a run for office without all the partisan bullshit that goes on over there, we'd indirectly support him.

What do you think? Should Charlotte win tonight? Should someone else win the title from Nikki? Should Nikki retain? Let us know what you think in the comments!
