The Grapevine (10/12/15): She Said Da!

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the Grapevine, where we round up the (technically unconfirmed) rumors from the wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the weekend.

It's been a crazy weekend for news:

  • Rusev and Lana are reportedly engaged now. The couple live offscreen in Nashville, Tennessee, and it was apparently done last month. Rusev proposed in their swimming pool and was said to have filmed it. (Source: TMZ)

We say: #MeronPangForever, at least for now. For the fans of this loveteam (including most of us at the Smark Henry offices) who were afraid that the RuRu/Summer/Lana/Dolph storyline was really Vince's rumored attempt at splitting the two up, this is our validation that happy endings do happen sometimes. Now can we please bring them back together onscreen? It's been too long, and Rusev's lost without Lana.

  • Regarding John Cena's time off, he's not getting married and he's not injured. It seems as though the 15-time WWE champion just wants to take some time off. It's been a hot topic around the locker room recently; people are somewhat concerned about him and he's insisting that he's all right. Cena reportedly said that when everyone finds out the real reason why he's taking time off, they'll see it as a good thing, but other than that, he hasn't given any hints. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: If he's not injured or getting married, then the best reason we can think of (given the hint) is that he's just tired of the same humdrum routine—come into work, hear the fans boo him the moment his name is spoken, try to win them over some way, somehow—and want new stars to finally shine in a spot he'll open up for them. Or he wants to avoid burning himself out to the point that he does something totally drastic. We don't know; we're not mind readers, but if Cena is doing this for some noble cause, we'll take his word for it.

  • Could Blue Pants be done with NXT? The talk going around backstage is that she won't likely be used anytime soon due to the previously reported backstage heat—apparently she had made (non-malicious) comments on how over her character is, rubbing people the wrong way. She, however, responded to these reports with a tweet (Source: PWInsider, WrestlingInc):

We say: We're not sure if her tweet is referring to her reported behavior, the fact that she could be done with the company for the time being, or both. Either way, something smells fishy here, and someone needs to be an adult in this situation. We don't know who, but we hope that whoever it is that needs to man or woman up does so.

  • WWE is interested in bringing back Alberto del Rio. With all the talk of trying to bring back Carlito in order to fill the Latino star spot in the company, El Patron is still someone they'd like to see back with them. No word yet if talks have started at all between the two sides, but it would be a little harder now that Lucha Underground is coming back for a second season. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Look, we've been over this. You've disrespected the guy and now he's happier elsewhere making just as much, if not more, while doing less. We're not his agents, but if you want him back, y'all better be prepared to treat him like the star he is.

What do you think? When do you figure Lana will be back with Rusev on TV? What could Cena's VL possibly be for? Do you want to see El Patron back in the WWE? Let us know what you think in the comments!
