The NXT Grapevine, December 2015: Everybody's Choking Now

Hello, Henrinites! Like we did with the previous set of NXT tapings for November, we've got the full results of the NXT episodes that will be airing this latter part of November into early December! These episodes serve as the lead-in for the upcoming NXT Takeover: London live show on December, so expect to see the card take shape through the matches below!

As usual, we're putting a quick WARNING here: if you don't want to be spoiled, turn back now. Otherwise, read on!

November 25th Episode:

  • Michael Cole temporarily took over NXT while incumbent GM William Regal is out recovering from surgery. Cole facilitated the contract signing for the NXT Championship match between Samoa Joe and Finn Balor. Joe choked Balor out after the signing.
  • NXT Tag Team Championship Match: The Mechanics (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson) (c) def. The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch) to retain the titles. Afterwards, Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady run out to chase the Mechanics off.
  • Asuka vs. Dana Brooke does not start as Emma attacked Asuka from behind before the match.
  • Apollo Crews def. Jesse Sorensen. After the match, Crews accepted Baron Corbin's challenge for NXT Takeover: London.
  • NXT Women's Championship Match: Bayley (c) def. Eva Marie (w/ Nia Jax) to retain the championship
  • Baron Corbin def. Tye Dillinger

Thoughts: Stacked episode to kick things off for this set of tapings, where storylines from the previous batch of tapings seem to be carrying on. Samoa Joe continues to make NXT Champion Finn Balor look like his little bitch, while the Mechanics continue to establish themselves in the tag team division. It also looks like we'll be getting more of the Asuka vs. Dana Brooke/Emma storyline continuing.

Like we said last time, though, the darkest timeline is happening, but thankfully, Bayley seems to have overcome #AllRedEverything. We're slowly going back into good, positive things here, folks.

December 2nd Episode:
  • Nia Jax def. the returning Blue Pants
  • James Storm def. Adam Rose
  • Chad Gable and Jason Jordan def. The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch)
  • Emma def. Liv Morgan. Afterwards, Asuka appeared on screen to challenge Emma to a match at NXT Takeover: London.
  • Samoa Joe def. Tommaso Ciampa
Thoughts: BLUE PANTS IS BACK!!! Looks like those rumors of her backstage attitude aren't really true, as she's still making appearances for NXT. She's still doing the job, and this time it's Nia Jax's turn to look strong (as if she needed to look stronger). Meanwhile, James Storm and Tommaso Ciampa make more appearances for NXT, and The Vaudevillains' losing streak continues. Also, holy hell, Samoa Joe vs. Tommaso Ciampa looks like one great matchup. Mark your calendars down, as that's one match you don't want to miss.

December 9th Episode:
  • Bull Dempsey def. Riddick Moss
  • Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady (w/ Carmella) def. Corey Hollis and John Skyler
  • Asuka def. Deona Purrazzo via knockout. Emma and Dana Brooke taunted Asuka from the stage.
  • The Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) def. Blake and Murphy
  • Bayley def. Peyton Royce. Afterwards, Nia Jax and Eva Marie came out to confront Bayley.
  • Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin def. Finn Balor and Apollo Crews. Joe choked out Balor, which led to the referee stopping the match.

Thoughts: The one-hour nature of NXT really makes its impact when you see how they rotate the wrestlers they feature for the weekly shows. This time, guys like the Hype Bros, Bull Dempsey and Blake/Murphy get a little love. Enzo and Cass make an appearance as well, looking strong to build up their tag team title match against the Mechanics. Meanwhile, Joe continues to one-up Finn Balor, picking up the win in a tag team match built via mashing together two of NXT's biggest feuds. Also, Asuka continues to rock, but that was expected.

As this is the last set of tapings before NXT Takeover: London, let's take a look at what seems to be the card so far:
  • NXT Championship Match: Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor (c)
  • NXT Women's Championship Match: Nia Jax vs. Bayley
  • NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. The Mechanics (Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder) (c)
  • Apollo Crews vs. Baron Corbin
  • Asuka vs. Emma
