31 Days of Wrestling (12/18/15): Peter Versoza vs. Ralph Imabayashi

It is Day 18 for our 31 Days of Wrestling and we are keeping the ball rolling by looking into two of their most exciting Filipino wrestlers in, arguably, one of the best PWR matches of the year.

#18. Peter Versoza vs. Ralph Imabayashi Quarterfinal Match for the PHX Title, PWR Live August 2015

With the revolution reaching greater heights, the Philippine Wrestling Revolution continued to establish its talented and growing roster by launching a brand-spanking new division in the Philippine Hybrid X. Mainly serving as the division for those under 180 lbs, the PHX division also houses an intriguing mix of wrestling styles and personalities, which the federation showcased in its onset of a tournament to crown the division's first champion.

One of the bouts that stood out on paper was the match-up between the enigmatic tag team specialist, Peter Versoza plying his wares for the first time in singles action and the fiery pocket-rocket, Ralph Imabayashi, who has been seeking to rise from the ranks as a formidable competitor. Considered as the sleeper for match of the night, the Revo-nation got more than what they wished for.

From pre-match promos to the in-ring face off, it was evident that both Imabayashi and Versoza brought their A-games. Despite being polar opposites of the personality spectrum, the party animal from #UpNorth and the proud Filipino-Japanese son were on equal ground with the high-octane offense and fast-paced action. Fierce exchanges of stiff strikes, hard-hitting slams, and innovative move chains of this back-and-forth affair definitely stole the show that night.

You can say that this match was their introduction to the Revo-nation as it probably served as a catapult for both wrestlers as we now find Versoza finding his (literal) groove upon splitting from Dual Shock and Imabayashi finding himself now thick in the mix for the PWR Championship as the #1 Contender in tomorrow's PWR Terminus.

What this match really accomplished was bigger, however—it showed that there is some raw promise in the fledgling wrestling promotion that can be honed by time, patience, and focus.

One thing's for certain: we cannot wait for these two to tangle again in the squared circle.
