The Grapevine (12/3/15): Build ALL the Factions!

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the Grapevine, where we round up the (technically unconfirmed) rumors from the wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

  • There will be a second ECW Original making his return to WWE as part of the Dudley Boyz' feud with the Wyatt Family heading into TLC. A name being thrown around is Rob Van Dam, especially since he's open about his desire to keep working with WWE on a part-time basis. On a related note, the group of Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and the Usos may be called "The Family" moving forward as they take on the League of Nations. (Sources: Wrestling Observer Radio, WrestlingInc, Inquisitr)

We say: All of these factions are great and make sense and all, but last we checked, Survivor Series happened two weeks ago. To be fair, everyone's storylines got thrown up in limbo as a result of Seth Rollins' injury and the tournament for the vacated WWE World Heavyweight Championship. But this all goes back to the problem of not having a solid direction for all of WWE's characters.

  • Alberto Del Rio and Zeb Colter aren't going to be in a partnership for the long haul. There are already plans about what Del Rio's direction will be for next year once he breaks away from Zeb Colter, however, nothing has been confirmed about what those plans are. (Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter)

We say: So what the fuck was the point of this MexAmerica bullshit? We have a very bad feeling that this was just WWE being petty again and ribbing Del Rio for leaving the way he did last year. And Alberto wonders why he ever left? Jeez.

  • Mick Foley's son, Dewey, is reportedly being hired as a writer for WWE Creative. Word is going around that his designation will be "creative assistant", and that he won't be full-time. His status moving forward will also depend on whether or not he impresses the higher-ups in the company with his work. They plan to have him start early next year, which is why his blog with his own ideas for WWE Creative is now private. Longtime followers of Dewey Foley on Twitter have also mentioned that he has since deleted old tweets criticizing WWE. (Source: SEScoops)

We say: It's time to put his money where his mouth is. Dewey Foley could very well be representative of the vocal members of the IWC who always complain about WWE. Either we see some actual change, or Dewey—along with the rest of us—sees that no matter how creative your ideas are, Vince McMahon still gets what he wants at the end of the day. On a side note, if WWE runs with a dumb idea that came from Dewey, we can call for him to be caned without any reservations because he's a grown ass man now.

  • And finally, WWE has shown interest in signing Shinsuke Nakamura when his NJPW contract expires by January. Nakamura has always wanted to do something "big" in America, and being a WWE superstar could very well fit that description. He's still slated to defend his IWGP Intercontinental Championship against A.J. Styles at Wrestle Kingdom 10, although A.J.'s back issues could put that match in jeopardy.

We say: The King of Strong Style is no spring chicken, and seeing him appear in NXT, might be weird for his longtime fans. But he does have a level of charisma that most American wrestlers can only dream of having, on top of the fact that he is widely considered as one of the best performers in the world right now. Then again, there's a reason why he has never left New Japan after all these years—and that's the language barrier. Even though Nakamura speaks English, do you really think WWE will take him more seriously than they take other Japanese wrestlers? Outside of Hideo Itami, look at the WWE's track record with Japanese exports. We see you, Taka Michinoku.

What do you think? Would you like to see Shinsuke Nakamura in WWE? Which ECW Original would you like to see team up with Tommy Dreamer and the Dudley Boyz? And what do you think are the plans for Alberto Del Rio for next year? Let us know in the comments section below!
