The Grapevine (12/4/15): Lethal Consequences

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the Grapevine, where we round up the (technically unconfirmed) rumors from the wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening:

  • Yesterday we reported that WWE is interested in Shinsuke Nakamura should he not re-sign with NJPW in January; another talent the company is interested in is Jay Lethal. Lethal's contract with ROH is apparently also expiring soon. Lethal would be joining NXT should it happen. (Source: WON)

We say: As much as we'd love to believe that everyone who's anyone in the indies is coming to the WWE, it looks like it's just about open season for indy stars here in 2015 and 2016. The real question is, do we need a lot more of them, even if NXT is expanding into a touring brand by next year? I feel like there are enough talents as it is now to fill out a two-hour show.

  • And speaking of Nakamura to WWE rumors, with regard to that news, NJPW parent company Bushiroad's owner, Takaaki Kidani has stated that they might have to start offering seven-figure deals to their talent. That means WWE might get into a bidding war should they really pursue Nakamura. (Source: WON)

We say: If you're going to use him—and use him well— on the main roster, we daresay it's going to be worth the money. He won't be a Mistico. But that's if you're going to use him well; if not, fuhgeddaboutit.

  • Kevin Owens was not on RAW this week due to an illness. No word on whether that meant a spot for him on the League of Nations stable to represent Canada. The New Day also are not official members of the faction. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Pretty sure KO is a shoe-in for that. He is evil, and he is a foreigner.

What do you think? Who hasn't the WWE tapped into for a spot on their roster? Let us know what you think in the comments!
