The NXT Grapevine: Road to Takeover: Dallas

Good morning, Henrinites! We've got more spoilers for upcoming episodes of NXT, covering the episodes leading up to NXT Takeover: Dallas! As usual, we're putting a quick WARNING here: if you don't want to be spoiled, turn back now. Otherwise, read on!

March 9:
  • #1 Contender's 2 Out of 3 Falls Match for the NXT Championship: Samoa Joe def. Sami Zayn
- Joe picked up the first fall via the Muscle Buster
- Zayn picked up the second fall via the Koji Clutch submission
- Joe picked up the third fall and the match via the Coquina Clutch

Thoughts: ALL NIGHT LONG! Yes, This episode is just one match long, and it definitely looks amazing. Joe vs. Zayn going at it for an hour should make for must-see television, and this looks like the kind of match we'll be talking about as a Match of the Year candidate. Put this on your calendars, folks.

Also, one more date to put on your calendars: Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover: Dallas!

March 16:
  • Hype Bros (Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) def. Angelo Dawkins and Kenneth Crawford
  • Emma def. Deonna Purrazzo
  • Tommaso Ciampa def. Jesse Sorensen
  • NXT Women's Champion Bayley and Asuka def. Eva Marie and Nia Jax
- NXT GM William Regal came out afterwards and announced Bayley vs. Asuka for the Women's Championship at NXT Takeover: Dallas.

Thoughts: Man, NXT isn't slowing down. Bayley vs. Asuka is the premier women's match on NXT right now, and it makes sense to feature it on what is set to be NXT's biggest show to date. They're easily the two best women at Full Sail right now, and we're finally going to see them square off.

March 23:
  • #1 Contender's Match for the NXT Tag Team Championship: American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable) def. The Vaudevillains (Aiden English and Simon Gotch)
  • Sami Zayn came out and cut a promo. William Regal came out and introduced NXT's latest arrival, Shinsuke Nakamura! He then books Zayn vs. Nakamura for NXT Takeover: Dallas.
  • Johnny Gargano def. "The Drifter" Elias Sampson
- Sampson beat down on Gargano after the match. Apollo Crews runs out for the save, and Crews and Sampson stare each other down.
  • NXT Champion Finn Balor def. Rich Swann in a non-title match
  • Alexa Bliss (w/ Blake and Murphy) def. Mary Dobson
  • Bull Dempsey vs. Danny Burch resulted in a no contest. Samoe Joe came out and choked both men out to send a message.

Thoughts: Shinsuke f'n Nakamura. That is all, folks.

Just kidding, but still, it's amazing that this is all finally happening! Also, American Alpha are finally #1 contender's, and with the reactions they've been getting, we might see them win the titles at Takeover: Dallas. It sucks to be Enzo and Cass, though, as it looks like they've been usurped from their position as NXT's most over tag team.

March 30:
  • Asuka def. Emma
  • Austin Aries def. Riddick Moss
  • American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable) def. Corey Hollis and John Skyler
  • Baron Corbin def. Q.T. Marshall
  • NXT Tag Team Champions Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson def. Steve Cutler and Tucker Knight
  • Apollo Crews def. Alex Riley
  • Samoa Joe def. Bull Dempsey
- Joe won via submission, but refused to let go after the match was over. Finn Balor comes out and brawls with Joe to end the show.
Thoughts: The go-home show for Takeover: Dallas has most of the featured guys warming up for the big event. It also features an appearance by Alex Riley, who has slipped back into obscurity once more. Finn and Joe can't seem to get enough of each other, and they'll get another chance to do so at Takeover.

To wrap things up, here is where the card stands for NXT Takeover: Dallas:

  • NXT Championship Match: Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor (c)
  • NXT Women's Championship Match: Asuka vs. Bayley (c)
  • NXT Tag Team Championship Match: American Alpha vs. Dash and Dawson (c)
  • Austin Aries vs. Baron Corbin
  • Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
  • Apollo Crews vs. Elias Sampson

Wow. Just to keep track, that's a whole lot of big independent names who have finally made it to WWE that are featured. This looks like the kind of card people were just fantasy booking a couple of years ago, only this time it's actually going to happen. We don't know what Vince McMahon and the rest of the main roster has planned for WrestleMania Star, but they better bring their A-game. NXT might just steal the show.

What do you think of this set of NXT tapings? Are you excited for NXT Takeover: Dallas? Let us know!
