The Grapevine (1/27/16): That Royal Rumble Finish, Though

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the Grapevine! This is our daily post rounding up all the interesting rumors from the wild, wild world of pro wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

The Grapevine makes it first appearance this week just now because bah Gawd, it's such a slow rumor week:

  • Dean Ambrose being the last guy eliminated at the Royal Rumble match was apparently an audible called by the WWE. The company decided to go with that finish at the last minute due to Orlando's booing of Roman Reigns from the get-go. (Source: Cageside Seats)

We say: If this is indeed true, the WWE really needs to stop avoiding the boos and start steering into the skid. They've already hamstrung Reigns's development with all this overprotection they're doing with him, and changing courses (we're assuming that the mid-match beatdown, while may or may not have been an audible, was also a tactic to protect him for the finish) is only making Roman look a lot worse. The crowd wants a valiant hero who toughs it out, and regardless of what they're expecting, give that to them and change their expectations. If Roman's elimination at the hands of Triple H gets cheered, then work around that. If the situation is already lose-lose, embrace it and work around that. Stop sticking to a plan that's guaranteed to fail already.

  • Add Naomi to the WWE injured list. According to agent Road Dogg on Twitter, the reason why she hasn't been competing much lately is because she's hurt. As to what the injury is, however, he did not disclose as much.

We say: How many more people need to get injured for the WWE to do something?

What do you think? Did you agree with how Roman was booked the entire match? Let us know what you think in the comments!
