#ThemeSongTuesday (1/26/16): Last Lunatic Standing

We’re all reeling from quite an eventful Royal Rumble. Widely considered the best one in years in terms of booking, this year’s Road to WrestleMania kickoff left us wanting more than we’ve ever wanted all year. Granted, we didn't see WWE #ClearDanielBryan, but what we got in its place sure as hell made up for it. Compelling story development for the Divas, Kalisto with his United States Championship, Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens, and AJ "Fucking" Styles. That is his new nickname, right? I could go on, but that isn't my job. It's Stan's

My job on #ThemeSongTuesday this week is to feature the theme that belongs to the Rumble's man of the night. It isn't Roman "Gonna Take A Break Mid-Rumble And Come Back Later To Look 'Strong'" Reigns, nor is it Paul "IT'S MY TIME, AND MY DICK FELL OFF" Levesque. In my opinion, the night belonged to the Intercontinental Champion, Dean "Win A Last Man Standing Match And Get Eliminated From The Royal Rumble Last" Ambrose.

"Retaliation" by CFO$ currently serves as The Lunatic Fringe's theme and is an updated version of the original "Lunatic Rage", the music given to him after The Shield's dissolving in July of 2014.

The newer version honestly doesn't stray too far from the original in terms of arrangement and overall feel, it just made two unnecessary differences that fans eventually minded, because boy, do we love finding mistakes!

One, they repeat the long intro rev fifteen seconds into the theme. That's a tad bit early for it to sound like it's reached the end and is looping, right? "Lunatic Rage", however, repeats the rev just half a second. A seamless transition into a sweet verse-like riff, crash cymbals in the background giving off shades of Stone Cold's broken glass. Two, they removed the verse-like riff in "Retaliation" altogether! In its place? The intro riff, repeated, making it sound even more like a hardcore Nokia ringtone as opposed to a full length composition.

Eventually, people stopped caring about the tiny differences. The chainsaw rev-like stinger and charged guitars have since become synonymous to Ambrose's style of reckless annihilation. It's the same song we heard when a Dusty finish led to his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship in Elimination Chamber 2015.

Nitpicking aside, "Lunatic Rage" is one of CFO$'s better compositions, with the updated "Retaliation" just being a prime example of "don't fix what isn't broken". Nevertheless, it's the theme we popped for at the beginning of last Sunday's A-grade Royal Rumble. The theme of the man that unexpectedly had us rooting for him til' the very end of it, too.

Do you think Dean Ambrose needs a new theme? Did you prefer the current "Retaliation" or its original "Lunatic Rage"? Share your thoughts below!
