The Grapevine (3/23/16): Woo Woo Woo

Good morning, and welcome to the daily Grapevine! Here is where we round up all the rumors, hearsay and tidbits of news from the wild world of professional wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

We all found out where Rydermania was headed yesterday, and we have a bit more on it:

  • Zack Ryder's spot in the Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match at WrestleMania was originally Neville's. He joins the title picture along with relative newcomers Stardust and Sin Cara, and also with Dolph Ziggler, the Miz, and Sami Zayn. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: WrestleMania 32 is the real "all hands on deck" show, with people going down left and right leading to undercarders getting promotions. Had WWE known how to build more people across the totem pole better, they wouldn't have a big problem of perception and believability with regard to guys like Zack and Stardust getting shots. (Oh, and they probably shouldn't have suspended Titus O'Neil for that long.)

  • Apparently, there's an ulterior motive for the New Day vs. League of Nations match beyond the WWE Tag Team Championships. According to Dave Meltzer, there are "things regarding this match that are bigger fish to fry, in their minds," which is why it isn't Y2AJ going up against the champs. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: For the life of us, we can't guess what it is. It's also admittedly not establishing the New Day as faces (which has already happened). Is it heat between a couple (or more) superstars that they need to take out in the ring? Our best guess is to set up a big "thank-you"/"please don't go" push/title reign for someone in the League of Nations (possibly Barrett, and someone else). That, or they're turning the belts into a trios championship.

  • TNA backstage morale is reportedly still low. It seems to have gotten worse this time, with wrestlers feeling like the company is going nowhere. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: With guys like Bobby Roode and Eric Young leaving and Kurt Angle taking time off—and the main event scene being a carousel—we can't blame the TNA roster for not having something stable to rally around. On the other hand, guys like Eddie Edwards and Mike Bennett are refuting this notion on Twitter, so maybe things aren't as bad as they seem. There might just be a couple of people still feeling bad.

What do you think? Do you believe Zack Ryder has a shot at the Intercontinental Championship? What something big could possibly happen in the tag title match at WrestleMania? Let us know what you think in the comments!
