The Grapevine (4/1/16): The Go Home Grapevine

Good morning, and welcome to the daily Grapevine! Here is where we round up all the rumors, hearsay and tidbits of news from the wild world of professional wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

We finally have the weekly Wrestling Observer Newsletter newsbag, and boy, it's a doozy:

  • Could the WrestleMania main event become No Disqualification? There are WrestleMania posters around Dallas advertising the Triple H/Roman Reigns match as no-DQ. It's possible that this was the original plan changed, or that this will be a stipulation announced that night or before the show. (Source: WrestlingInc)

We say: We know it happened once at WrestleMania X-Seven, but this would be some lazy booking if it were an impromptu title change. We're not quite sure if that would go over well, as it would make the three biggest matches on the show some form of hardcore match. Let's see.

  • Nikki Bella reportedly cannot make a full-time return to the ring. Nikki, who suffered a serious, career-threatening neck injury, was supposed to return to RAW this week and join the 5-on-5 tag match at WrestleMania in some capacity, but was told that even an accidental bump could set her recovery back by a lot. She has apparently been told by doctors that she could never wrestle full-time again, though she will meet them again in July to determine her future. (Source: WrestlingInc)

We say: That... really sucks, especially to hear it happen to someone who's worked so hard at getting better at what she does. We really wish Nikki the best.

  • On a related note, John Cena is "almost ready to return to the ring." He is reportedly expected to be cleared to return any time now, if he hasn't been cleared already, and it's possible that he does something for WrestleMania, despite being previously reported that he still has months to go in his recovery. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Certainly nothing we haven't expected from the freak that is John Cena, but we wonder what he's going to do? Will he get involved in any of the main events? Helping Shane out and setting up Cena/Taker at WrestleMania 33?

  • The Balor Club debut is imminent. Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows are scheduled to be at TV tapings next week, and it's believed that Finn Balor will also be there to debut together. They're also expected to be backstage at WrestleMania. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: H Y P E!

  • There seems to be a new award to be revealed at this year's Hall of Fame ceremony. This year's Hall of Fame T-shirt features all the announced inductees, but also includes a row of pre-WWE legends including Lou Thesz, Ed "Strangler" Lewis, Frank Gotch, and George Hackenschmidt, among others, as recepients of a "WWE Legacy Award." From the looks of it, they don't seem to be considered technically in the Hall of Fame. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: That's interesting. Why now, and why wouldn't they be in the Hall of Fame, even though they're legendary? Would they really have to have appeared in a WWE ring?

  • King Cuerno of Lucha Underground was reportedly offered a spot in the Global Cruiserweight Series, but was stopped by the show and AAA. Cuerno, like many LU stars, is signed to a long seven-season deal, but was not part of the season three tapings that's already begun, and hasn't wrestled in AAA since March 4. WWE has already revealed seven participants of the GCS, with qualifying matches for more participants set to take place in EVOLVE, Revolution Pro, and PROGRESS Wrestling in the coming weeks. (Source: WON)

We say: That's terrible news for Cuerno, although we all have to respect the terms of the exclusive contract. On the other hand, why lock him down if you're not going to use him? Cuerno has been quite underutilized on the show as of late.

What do you think? Would you prefer that Triple H/Roman Reigns be no-DQ? Would you want to see King Cuerno participate in the Global Cruiserweight Series? ARE YOU EXCITED FOR WRESTLEMANIA? Let us know what you think in the comments!
