The Grapevine (4/8/16): What Could Have Been

Good morning, and welcome to the daily Grapevine! Here is where we round up all the rumors, hearsay and tidbits of news from the wild world of professional wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

We have the last few remains of WrestleMania week, care of the weekly WON bag:

  • The original plans for WrestleMania were Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho. The story would've played off of Chris Jericho walking out of the six-man tag with Ambrose and Roman Reigns against the Wyatt Family back in Night of Champions last year. There were a lot of reasons why it didn't happen, including AJ Styles's signing and WWE deciding to put Dean in a feud with Brock Lesnar. The Ambrose/Lesnar match also was originally going to involve the Wyatts in the finish. (Source: WON)

We say: That would've been amazing to watch, had Ambrose/Lesnar not been a better idea... on paper. Poor Dean.

  • If you were wondering why Triple H didn't open Takeover: Dallas like he usually does, Vince McMahon made the call to keep him away. He didn't want Hunter to play the babyface boss again when he was about to come in as the evil Authority heel on Sunday night. (Source: WON)

We say: Finally, a Vince decision that makes sense. While we understand that NXT is Hunter's baby, there are some things he needs to be talked out of.

  • Shinsuke Nakamura is keeping his first name... for now. That may still change when he goes up to the main roster. No exact news yet on why the Boma Ye was renamed to the Kinshasa, but it might have something to do with the murderous connotations of the original name. (Source: WON)

We say: We honestly wouldn't mind if he just went by Nakamura, as a lot of non-Japanese people have problems saying "Shinsuke" correctly anyway. It's going to be like "Tajiri."

What do you think? Would you have preferred Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho instead of Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar? Let us know what you think in the comments!
