The Grapevine (5/20/16): Memoirs Of A McMahon

Good morning, Henrinites, and welcome to your daily Grapevine! Here is where we round up all the rumors, news and bits of hearsay in the wild world of professional wrestling that you may have missed over the evening.

It's time for this week's Observer mailbag:

  • Stephanie McMahon's upcoming memoir is part of a plan to groom her into the public eye for the time she eventually has to take over from Vince. It's said that the book is a way to really put her in the spotlight, get more eyes on her, and "build a relationship between her and the audience." (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Sure, but... hasn't Steph been in the public eye since, I don't know, 2000? If we're talking as a non-wrestling character, then she's been in that role since 2003. Maybe they mean as an offscreen company VIP, but even then that's been the case since the late 2000s. How much more public can she get?

  • BAMF split up due to Blake having an injury. The team, which dissolved on last night's episode of NXT, saw Blake barely competing since April. Blake had recently gone through a knee surgery. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)

We say: We get it, but injuries aren't really the best reason to split up a team, especially one that's as solid as BAMF. We'll see if they'll be repackaging Murphy (and whether that works), but we feel that this was ill-advised.

  • WWE is trying to find a female wrestler to partner with Kalisto against Rusev and Lana. The idea is to have the two parties feud in mixed tag matches, for which Lana has been wrestling NXT live events to prepare. (Source: WON)

We say: You guys have a good female wrestler for this. You might have heard of her? Her Uncle Snoop even came around to sing her song.

  • If you were wondering why the Brooklyn Brawler was released after years of service, it was apparently because of a small mistake he made. He was fired a couple of weeks ago as part of the spring cleaning cuts. (Source: WON)

We say: Tenure? What tenure?
