The Grapevine (5/4/16): Big Guy Blues

Good morning, Henrinites, and welcome to your daily Grapevine! Here is where we round up all the rumors, news and bits of hearsay in the wild world of professional wrestling that you may have missed over the last night.

The past 24 hours have been dominated by a lot of buzz over a certain big guy, so let's get to it:

  • It seems like we won't be seeing Ryback on WWE TV anytime soon. Before yesterday's RAW, Ryback sat down with Vince McMahon to discuss a contract renewal, as his current deal runs until late July or early August. Dave Meltzer noted that the two sides were very far apart on money, and it ended with Vince suggesting that Ryback just go home. Last night, Ryback published a blog post which clarified that it was not because of the money, but due to his disagreement with the way WWE compensates the wrestlers. Further reports mention that WWE is willing to pay out Ryback until his contract runs out, unless they find a deal that both parties agree so that he can return to the ring. We say: We highly recommend that you read Ryback's post linked above, as it's always nice to see different sides of the story. If what he's saying is true, then that's a remarkable insight into the way WWE pays their wrestlers. Of course, we don't know WWE's side on this, so remember that this is simply one side's view. We do hope that Ryback and the WWE can agree on a deal, as he seems to be one of the nicer guys on the roster. He just had a decent match with Kalisto at Payback, so it's a shame to know that that may be the last time we see him.

The irony in all of this, though, is that Ryback seems headed down the same path of waiting out his contract that CM Punk did when he left the WWE. We know the history between the two, but it's very interesting that they may have similar ends to their WWE run.

  • Tamina recently underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament. According to her manager, Tamina underwent surgery last Monday to mend the injury she picked up last week. She last wrestled on the final leg of WWE's European tour in Spain last April 23. (Source: Wrestling Inc)

We say: It always sucks to see someone go down with an injury, but it's great that Tamina has taken the necessary steps to recover from it. Get well soon!

  • Hulk Hogan has filed a second lawsuit against Gawker. Terry Bollea seems set to take down Gawker, and his second lawsuit is filed on the grounds that Gawker released contents of a sealed document which lead to WWE cutting all ties with the Hall of Famer. The new lawsuit does not currently list any specific monetary damages. (Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter)

We say: If there was any other way for this debacle to turn into even more of a trainwreck than it already is, this is it.

What do you think, Henrinites? Will Ryback and the WWE agree on something? Is there any way for the Hulk Hogan to debacle to turn into even more of a joke? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
