#ThemeSongTuesday (5/10/16): When We Say Uce...

Roman Reigns isn’t the only member of my Samoan Guilty Pleasure Club (Widely considered lackluster members of the Anoa'i that I happen to enjoy): S.H.I.T.-era Rosey is there too, along with the constantly hyped, Siva Tau-reciting team of Jey and Jimmy Uso.

Nearly anyone you ask about The Usos has a list of perfectly understandable reasons why they choose to respond “NO!” as opposed to completing the “UCE! O!” chant. While the majority has decided that their somewhat bland personalities and lack of character direction are deal breakers, I’m still sold on the two; almost childishly dragged along by their firecracker energy every time I see them in the ring.

I’m sold on their vanilla brand of coolness; and their theme reflects this perfectly.

The Usos’ current theme, “So Close Now”, is a synth-driven rap track from New Zealand hip-hop artist David Dallas which includes a sample of Jim Johnston’s “Alga” during the opening Siva Tau portion and throughout the song’s beat. On its own, the theme comes off as every song your douchebag friend listens to at the gym while working on his #gains, but when placed with Jimmy and Jey’s fireball-spewing entrance sequence… Okay fine, it still reeks of #aesthetic, but the natural swagger of the Usos help carry the song to an unironic level of cool. I mean, have you seen the way they dab?!

As of late, the two have been prominently featured in the main event scene due to their relation to WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and if you’ve read Smark Henry’s RAW Review from a few weeks back, they have been helping Roman become a more fleshed out character. Despite this, the Slammy Award-winning Tag Team of the Year has a long way to go before winning over the smarky crowd who’ve dubbed them “stale” over the past few years.

Could a change of theme song help The Usos freshen up their characters, or will they need to be completely repackaged altogether? Let us know in the comments below!
