#ThemeSongTuesday (5/24/16): AAAAAAWESOME

Believe it or not, Mike “The Miz” Mizanin has been a main roster name for longer than most of the “New Era” Superstars have been in the company. It's been almost a decade since his first match against Tatanka on SmackDown! Before he was the instantly infuriating douchebag we all know and kinda accept today, The Miz debuted as, well, an instantly infuriating douchebag...just with frosted tips and a theme song fit for a troubled teen that sets stuff on fire for fun. He’s come a long way, to say the least.

Who is that actual walking penis making his way to the ring?” None other than future Grand Slam Champion, Triple Crown Champion, and WrestleMania main-eventer Mike Mizanin! But prior to these awesome achievements, he was a younger obnoxious little prick blessed with “Reality”, a Jim Johnston theme.

In hindsight, this generic garage rock theme song couldn’t find a better home than with a young Miz. The generic guitar licks and progression perfectly mirror the brand of try-hard coolness his character pushes from the start. A man who wants to be awesome so bad it's annoying needs a theme like this: loud, uninspired, and full of a loud lead guitar.

Man, seeing The Miz out of all people going through his entrance in the classic “protruding fist” SmackDown! arena is truly surreal to me. Then again, so was seeing him as WWE Champion and beating John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania. Fast-forward ten years and we have today’s The Miz with his current—and longest running—theme “I Came To Play”:

What better way to evolve The Miz’s singles theme without losing what made the first one so perfect for the frustratingly macho-douchey persona? Get Downstait (also the guys behind Dolph Ziggler’s “Here To Show The World”) to make a Limp Bizkit-esque track and slap it on his entrance! Done. “I Came To Play” is louder in every sense of the word, with added Durst-y vocals and buzzword lyrics to assert the brand of “can’t back it up” arrogance that we love to hate The Miz for.

Although whether you hate him or not, you can’t deny that The Miz does exactly what a heel is supposed to do: draw heat, steal wins, and possess a remarkably punchable face.

It's a good thing, too, since his childhood consisted mostly of watching professional wrestling and listening to his parents on the radio. He's only recently rekindled his love for the WWE, and has been trying to make up for missing out on everything post-WrestleMania XX by praying to Seth Rollins thrice a day.
