The Grapevine (6/13/16): Meet The New Boss, Same As The Old Boss

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the weekend.

What's the current status of the TNA takeover?

  • Aroluxe has apparently taken ownership of TNA. Although Dixie Carter reportedly remains the majority owner of the company—something she insisted on during negotiations—it looks like Aroluxe is conducting business under both its original name and TNA. Meanwhile, Billy Corgan will be the new minority owner of the company (if he isn't already, as reports on this are conflicting). (Source: PWInsider, PWTorch)

We say: Welp. Nothing really changes, except that Dixie has some money again.

  • WWE will reportedly be holding two monthly PPV events after the brand split. According to Jerry Lawler in his appearance at the annual Superman Celebration, there will be live Network specials for both brands every month, but the Big Four PPVs remain as they are. (Source: Ringside News)

We say: This is interesting, and definitely helps the two-month wait single-brand PPVs enabled (even though a longer time between blowoffs set the table for better stories). We just don't know how things will be set up—will they be taking two Sundays a month to accommodate these specials, or take the whole weekend? What about Money in the Bank? Is it going back to WrestleMania? This solution seems a lot more problematic than it looks and might not help the WWE's current crop of injury issues.

  • Brandi Rhodes, the woman you know better as Eden Stiles, will not be doing a lot of work in wrestling while husband Cody Rhodes works the indies. She will be managing Cody when he takes on Mike Bennett (with Maria at his corner) but other than that, she seems to be pursuing other projects outside of the business. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: That's a shame. She was a fit in the business (and she could be the next Maria and Maryse if she really wanted to) but we wish her well in all her endeavors.
