The Grapevine (6/15/16): The Man That Injury Will Soon Forget

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

We never forgot about this man:

  • Neville is scheduled to return next month. Officials hoped the Man That Gravity Forgot would return by the end of June, but it seems that a more realistic timetable would be mid-July. Neville has been out since March, after suffering a nasty freak ankle injury in a match against Chris Jericho on RAW. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Can we finally say that the Injury Curse is about to end? And can we get Neville and Apollo Crews as a tag team?

  • The two monthly PPV event scheme post-brand split is not confirmed. We reported yesterday that Jerry Lawler said this to fans at an event, but so far it's just speculation as people in the company were merely under the impression that that would be the case after the original announcement was made. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: Thank God it's still unconfirmed—we still don't think holding two PPVs would be a great idea.

  • Speaking of the brand split, WWE is looking into having former Superstars return to add some name power to each show. There was talk of raiding NXT of its main event talent, but they are thinking of doing this to round out the rosters more. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: That's fine if you're gonna put them more in Bob Backlund and Dudley Boyz roles, but don't overdo it. You guys have a lot of young talent waiting in the wings for their time in the sun. Don't forget about them.

  • Former TNA X Division Champion Amazing Red was supposed to be a part of the Cruiserweight Classic, but he is currently down with an ankle injury. He wouldn't make it in time for the tapings, which begin on June 23. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: That's a shame; we feel like there are too many obscure talents in the tournament, but it would be great to discover new favorites. We hope Red can make a comeback and do his thing in next year's tournament.
