#ThemeSongTuesday (7/12/16): Where All My Bros At?

The “Veil of Fire” to his “Burned”, this updated version of Zack Ryder’s debut singles theme takes the original “Radio” and makes it look tame in comparison. In place of the “WOO WOO WOO — You know it!” stinger that opens the original track, we get the amped up, over-modulated voice of Downstait lead singer Darren Call asking:

Where all my bros at? WOO! WOO!
Let’s get their fists up! WOO! WOO!”

All over a soaring lead guitar riff that actually makes for a solid theme opener, if only there was one more “WOO” to complete the set. This “call to arms” may come off a little cheesy for most, but it works. The song hits the chorus and immediately you notice the switch from the original’s slower synth-pop vibe to Downstait’s loud, straight-up rock treatment. The intensity is further highlighted by the screamo vocals leading into the next chorus, reminiscent of “Hello Fascination”-era Breathe Carolina.

Not much is changed with the second verse, so these douchey lyrics that were also the weak point of the original still fall short:

I'm gonna drink some beer tonight, yeah
Gonna get some girls I like
I'm gonna wear my pants real tight
All the girls are gonna treat me just right”

I’m fully aware that this is part of Zack Ryder’s “DudeBro” character, however, my main concern is these lyrics end up sounding awkward and forced. If they were allowed to switch things up in the first verse by closing it off screaming, why not do the same for the weaker verse that follows for a breath of fresh air? Unfortunately, it’s sung the same way with the only changes coming in right before the pre-chorus. A few lyrics too late there, Downstait.

Ultimately, the new “Radio” is streets ahead of the original. We can look past the lack of a third “WOO!” and the unchanged weak second verse, as this revamped version of his memorable first theme is exactly what he needed to go along with the upcoming push. With Ryder set for a shot at the United States Championship against Rusev at WWE Battleground plus the draft coming up, we feel a solid broski buzz of good things coming.

Check out the original Zack Ryder theme and tell us what you think! Which of these two did you like better?
