#ThemeSongTuesday (7/19/16): The Younger, The Greater

Forget the fact that he sometimes talks like a goofy cartoon character, or that the build-up to his debut was a bunch of strangely-paced video packages; Darren Young is great again. Not that the former Tag Team Champion and pioneer member of The Nexus stopped being great, but his absence from the main roster weakened his flame a bit. The wait along with the sometimes awkward segments paid off into a newer, greater Darren Young. Is his theme song great, though? Let’s check it out now!

“Great Again” by CFO$ opens with a stinger of Bob Backlund screaming “LET’S MAKE DARREN YOUNG GREAT AGAIN” with near post-hardcore vocalist perfection. Seriously, add any A Day To Remember breakdown after that and it will fit like a glove. Then what sounds like a patriotic march into battle slowly transforms into a more modern film score-esque instrumental with a steady rhythm and Bob Backlund’s “Let’s make Darren Young great again” voice clip remixed along with the beat. The mix of a classic war march and underground, progressive beats capture not only the intensity of Darren Young, but the historical connection that Bob Backlund brings.

Miles ahead of his previous “horse-screaming rap” singles theme, “Great Again” is the right theme song accompanying his slow rise to, hopefully, anywhere substantial on either RAW or SmackDown! WWE showed us that they could make Darren Young great again. Now, can they keep him great? Well, having a decent singles theme certainly helps that.

What do you think of Darren Young's new theme? Let us know in the comments below!
