WWE SmackDown Live Results (8/2/16): Opportunities

Tuesday night in Nashville, title shots and reputations were on the line.

Reality check... and a challenge

WWE Champion Dean Ambrose kicked off SmackDown in the ring to address his SummerSlam opponent, Dolph Ziggler.

Ambrose chided Ziggler for being the Show-off and the show-stealer, but never the winner. Ziggler responded with an emotional speech, but Ambrose was not convinced.

As the champ dropped the mic and left, the lights went out, and Bray Wyatt emerged, hitting Ziggler with a Sister Abigail! Wyatt then challenged Ziggler for his spot at SummerSlam!

At the main event, Ziggler did just that, shutting up Wyatt with a superkick after Bray hit the turnbuckle corner he earlier exposed.

After the match, however, Bray Wyatt's protege Erick Rowan came in for the attack! Ambrose tried to save Ziggler, but to no avail. Wyatt then hit Ziggler with another Sister Abigail to end the show!

Orton hunted

At the top of the show, SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon and GM Daniel Bryan provided Randy Orton with security, following the Viper's RKO to Brock Lesnar last night on RAW.

Of course, Lesnar returned the favor. During Orton's match against Fandango, Lesnar attacked Orton with a vicious F5!

'Why are you still here?'

This was what AJ Styles asked John Cena on Tuesday. Styles has had enough of Cena, his 15-year career, and his appeal to the WWE Universe. Take note that AJ had defeated Cena at Money in the Bank.

Cena then said, once again, that he loves the WWE so much that it's his only home... and he's never leaving.

AJ thought Cena would say that, so he demanded a rematch against him at SummerSlam! No excuses, no The Club, just the two of them.

Cena's response: "I need to teach your ass a lesson! You're on!"

New IC Title contender

The Miz met his new challenger Friday for the Intercontinental Title: Apollo Crews, who defeated Baron Corbin and Kalisto in a Triple Threat Match.

After the match, Corbin continued the assault on Kalisto. Crews made the save, but Miz took him out, too. Corbin then laid out Miz as well, with the End of Days!

Double A!

The American Alpha, Chad Gable and Jason Jordan, made their SmackDown debut Tuesday, defeating fellow NXT alum The Vaudevillains (Simon Gotch and Aiden English).

Cancelled... and gored!

A scheduled match between Becky Lynch and Eva Marie was called off because Eva Marie apparently tore her hamstring.

Then, Carmella and Natalya had a war of words backstage. Later, as Carmella was heading to the ring, she was attacked by Natalya on the entrance ramp!

Much later in the show, at his office, Daniel Bryan gave Heath Slater an opportunity to get onboard the Blue Brand in a match next week against... Rhyno, who gored Slater again then and there!
