TJ Perkins Is Your Cruiserweight Classic Winner, And Your New Cruiserweight Champion

IT FINALLY HAPPENED.

After two months of relative uncertainty—the WWE Cruiserweight Classic had many big names that seemed more certain to win it all—all Filipino wrestling fans' dream finally came true: TJ Perkins won the inaugural tournament.

And not only that. Triple H stepped in at the very last moment and upped the ante: the winner of the finals also gets to become the inaugural Cruiserweight Champion heading into RAW

The night started off with the first semifinal match, in which Gran Metalik surprisingly pulled off the win against favorite Zack Sabre, Jr. This was when everyone was calling for the finals to be Zack Sabre, Jr. versus Kota Ibushi, TJ's opponent in the semis, and figured that Sabre was losing to Metalik because he hadn't signed a WWE contract.

Ibushi squared off against Perkins, and it was one hell of a nailbiter considering how favored Ibushi was to win the whole thing. After a hellacious back-and-forth match with cardiac near falls, Perkins pulled out the win via the TJP Clutch. It was rumored that Perkins might have been going to the finals, but we didn't believe it until he actually beat Ibushi.

After a cooldown tag match with the team of Noam Dar and Cedric Alexander losing to DIY, the final began—with Triple H interrupting and revealing that the winner of the final would also win the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Once the new title was revealed (watch out for an #SGQ soon) it all made sense: this was why Sabre and Ibushi lost, because they couldn't have the title.

The two semifinalists, who would both be excellent first Cruiserweight Classic winners and Cruiserweight Champions, went at it with all that they had left tonight, and after a veritable classic, the Filipino Phenom TJ Perkins managed to make Gran Metalik tap with the TJP Clutch. Check out the damage TJ took on his chest:

After the match, TJ cut a touching promo, saying that the Cruiserweight Classic victory and trophy represents not just one person, but all 32 competitors, who are "all his heroes."

On Monday, September 19, TJ walks into RAW as the Cruiserweight Champion, and it'll be one hell of an introduction for a division and its figurehead. Words don't suffice for all the pride we feel as Filipino wrestling fans. Congratulations, TJ. We're all proud of you, man!
