SmackDown RunDown Live (10/25/16): You Done Goofed

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. It’s another edition of SmackDown Live and this week, we witnessed some betrayals and screw-ups. Let’s get down to it.

Ellsworth 3:16 cost Dean Ambrose a major opportunity

James Ellsworth, you done goofed.

This week’s show featured another solid main event that featured a fuming AJ Styles, a determined Dean Ambrose, and an excited James Ellsworth. Ambrose reluctantly allowed Ellsworth to be at ringside, effectively establishing Dean Ambrose as a believable hero. Sure, he wants to do things his way, but he just can’t crush the man’s heart by refusing Ellsworth’s support. This was also a good week to be the Man with Two Fighting Hands (and a Fighting Chance). He has now become part of a major storyline. How cool is that?

Somehow, I have a feeling that Ellsworth is going to turn heel after a few weeks. I hope not, especially since his lovable loser character got over just recently. Adding him to SmackDown Live’s already cluttered heel roster doesn’t sound appealing. On the other hand, we can’t have Dean Ambrose destroy Ellsworth in the coming weeks. So yeah, SmackDown Live did a great job creating intrigue with an unsolicited No Chin Music. I literally have no idea how they will advance James Ellsworth’s storyline if they officially sign him.

Some Blue Brand Vibes and Blues—Live!

Before you sip that mocha latte, how about a quick round of Vibes and Blues? We got plenty to talk about in this week’s episode. As always, Vibe is equal to a big “Yes,” while Blue is equal to a resounding “No.” You ready?

Vibe: Bray Wyatt just got himself a new recruit in the form of a venomous snake. This is definitely the Randy Orton we all love to hate. A grand return to his roots, if you will. This is also great news to Bray Wyatt and his family. He has been racking up huge wins over the past few months and I believe Creative is planning something huge for the Eater of Worlds. Or maybe this is just a rehash of the Daniel Bryan-Bray Wyatt storyline a few years ago. Yikes.

Vibe: The Beauty and the Man-Best faced the Spirit Squad in an impromptu championship match and it was just all sorts of fun. Dolph Ziggler and The Miz had a quick exchange before the match and it was okay. I just love the sight of Rhyno flaring up after he heard the words “male cheerleader.” Slater and Rhyno will lead SmackDown Live next month in the 10-man elimination match and what can I say, it’s fantastic. Can you imagine Beulah’s baby-daddy actually leading a Survivor Series team?

Vibe: Alexa Bliss was on fire tonight with her great mic work against a returning Becky Lynch. Alexa’s personality countered the Becky Balboa character very well and the spray paint on Becky’s back was just the cherry on top of a very good promo. One thing that will make this rivalry and the SmackDown Women’s Championship mean something is the main event spot on November 8. Just sayin’.

Blue: Meanwhile, Nikki Bella just became the captain of SmackDown Live's female Survivor Series team. Her match with Natalya was good, especially Nikki’s modified version of the STF submission hold. I just didn’t get why they had a match for the right to be captain. The SmackDown Women’s Champion should automatically get the leadership, right? And if they want someone who is not the champion, why not make every woman in the roster fight for the captaincy? Nepotism much, D-Bry?

Vibe: The Hype Bros scored an impressive win against the Ascension. I’m starting to like the mic work of Mojo Rawley. He’s just too energetic and his moveset featured stiff spots. I wonder who else would join Team Man-Beast for Survivor Series?

SMACKDOWN RUNDOWN: Once again, the Blue Brand delivered a solid show. Randy Orton’s swerve caught me off guard, while James Ellsworth definitely stole the show, and he wasn’t the victim this time. I’m thrilled to see how the Blue Brand will build their Survivor Series teams in three weeks’ time. It wouldn’t hurt if SmackDown Live also has a marquee match to compete with Lesnar vs Goldberg. In the meantime, this week’s episode deserves an A.
