PWR Live: Suplex Sunday Preview—Versoza vs. Crystal II: The Sequel

Last February at PWR Vendetta 2016, the seemingly odd match-up between the high-flying "Bulacan Babe Magnet" Peter Versoza and the never-say-die announcer-turned-grappler Crystal put on one of the finest matches in Philippine Wrestling Revolution history in the country's first intergender wrestling face-off. That match was easily MOTN. Versoza emerged victorious that night, but the bad blood between the two has gotten even worse since then.

And that's why PWR management has booked a rematch between the two at PWR Live: Suplex Sunday this November 13 at the Unilab Bayanihan Center in Kapitolyo.

Now, there are two kinds of sequels in life: Those that raise the bar even higher than the original did (hello Godfather II, Empire Strikes Back!), and those that are too repugnant for words (Speed 2: Cruise Control, anyone?). Will this second match between the two fierce rivals dazzle or disappoint? Let's break it down.

P to the V

Peter Versoza is one mighty sore winner. He's had one hell of a chip on his shoulder against Crystal from the moment he joined the Royal Flush, and became the now-retired Scarlett's proxy against her. You'd think a dude with his talents would fight fair against an opponent as raw as Crystal, but that hasn't been the case.

It seems at times as if Versoza is actively going out of his way to antagonize Crystal, dogging her every chance he gets. Case in point: His thuggish sneak attack moments after she came up short in her challenge for his stablemate Main Maxx's PHX Championship at Renaissance.

The Bulacan Babe Magnet has been insufferable since joining the singles division of PWR. It's about time he got put in his place.

Crystal Jaded

It's pretty clear that Crystal is one of the more popular talents in PWR, judging from the crowd reactions she draws on the regular. And she has the game to back up her crowd appeal—from spinning headscissors to painful submissions, she fights pretty damn well.

But the unfortunate reality is that, for all the adulation she gets from the Revo-Nation, Crystal is nothing more than a lovable loser. Let's face facts—she's 0-3 so far in her career, always putting up a good fight, but never quite grasping the brass ring.

She desperately needs a win to prove she's more than a roster novelty, and what better opportunity than in this rematch against a man whose moves and ring tactics she should know by now like the back of her hand? She's been training like a woman possessed, knowing this could be her make-or-break moment.

Our Prediction

Peter Versoza knows what it takes to defeat Crystal—heck, he's done it before—and we don't anticipate him deviating much from his regular gameplan. Last time out, he came into the match with a lazy, almost lackadaisical attitude towards his opponent, as if he couldn't believe he had to face an opponent of her then-lowly PWR status.

But he's learned to respect her a lot more since then; Versoza knows better than anyone how close he came to losing that night. Expect him to swarm her from the start with his size advantage (that's what she said), and keep the crowd out of the match. He'll try to minimize his aerial game, and overwhelm her with punishing moves like his trademark Petegree and Karne Norte gutbuster.

He'll go to town with a suplex parade, ragdolling her senseless with enough throws to have her ribs screaming in pain.

Crystal, on the other hand, knows how she's badly outsized nearly every single match, and will continue to use her body as a weapon, striking him from multiple angles to disorient and confuse him.

She had a masterful blueprint drawn up against Main Maxx in their PHX Championship match, and executed it flawlessly. She just couldn't get the win that night, but that will most likely be her strategy again this time out.

She'll try to keep Peter reeling throughout the match with a high-low assault, and perhaps try to neuter the Royal Flush numbers advantage by playing on Maxx's softening feelings for her.

It's time for Crystal to break through with a win, and this just may be the night. In a high-octane match between two of PWR's biggest daredevils, expect girl power to reign supreme and steal the 'W' in this rematch with a single humiliating Black Widow tapout.

Winner: Crystal via submission.
