The Grapevine (11/28/16): Hailing The 205

Good morning, and this is your daily Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the weekend.

We have some updates on who's showing up at the 205 Live premiere this week:

  • Cruiserweight Classic finalist Gran Metallik, Akira Tozawa, and Harv and Gurv Sihra will be in the pilot episode of 205 Live this week. We're not sure yet about who else will be on this week's episode, airing live after SmackDown, but Cruiserweight Classic entrants such as Jack Gallagher were also advertised for the show. We say: Looks good. We've missed Gran Metallik, one of the more underrated finds in the CWC, on our screens. Hoping the Gentleman can finally make it as well.

  • Kenny Dykstra has been fired from his day job thanks to his recent WWE appearances. Kenny had been working at a non-profit charity organization, and had taken too many days off to wrestle on SmackDown Live as part of the 2016 Spirit Squad. He hasn't been offered a contract yet, however. (Source: Pro Wrestling Sheet)

We say: We're actually just amazed that he still has it, but it's probably because he's still able to wrestle while holding down a day job. Let's sign him already, WWE, and maybe we can still reclaim that lost Kenny Dykstra 2008 singles push while he's still pretty young.

  • James Ellsworth is now officially on the road with SmackDown. He signed a full-time contract with the WWE a couple of weeks ago, and won a contract on-screen on last week's episode of SmackDown. (Source: PWInsider)

We say: GO TO THE PERFORMANCE CENTER, JAMES. But if anything at all, we're glad to see that those who get over are finally getting rewarded. The system itself needed to go back to being a legitimate meritocracy for the longest time, and while this doesn't fix everything that's wrong with it (see: Cesaro), this is a good first step. It at least makes SmackDown the place to be.
