#MustWatchMonday (1/16/17): Kassius Ohno (Chris Hero) vs. William Regal

About a week and a half ago, a familiar face made his return to NXT. With NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura inthe  ring following a match he had just won (which won't be revealed for spoilers' sake), Kassius Ohno, also known as Chris Hero on the indies, returned and made it clear to Nakamura that he was coming for the NXT championship.

This would be Kassius Ohno's first time in a WWE ring in about 4 years. Before he made his return to the indies in 2013, however, Ohno was instrumental in establishing the transition of NXT from a reality show to the developmental brand. He was on the very first episode of this manifestation of NXT, and his first feud was against the now-retired Richie Steamboat, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Ricky Steamboat.

While he ultimately lost this feud, he was able to establish himself as one of the top heels in the brand and soon he moved on to feuding with William Regal. Essentially the feud progressed with one taunting the other, with Regal still playing off his more villainous personality, while still running out for the save whenever Ohno would decide to excessively beat down his opponents. Ohno questioned Regal's legacy and impact on WWE history, which understandably put Regal on edge.

The assaults and the taunting continued until their feud culminated in a match on April 10, 2013. The match takes the style of a young up-and-comer vs. the grizzled old veteran. Ohno preys on Regal with violence and brutality, while Regal conducts his offense in a cold, calculating manner. Regal focuses on Ohno's hands, making sure he cannot lock in his finisher submission, while Ohno uses his youth, strength, and sheer desperation to make sure Regal cannot lock in the Regal Stretch. However, despite Ohno bringing Regal to the brink, the veteran eventually shines through and gets a win following a Knee Trembler.

It's a short match that's easy to watch, and it lets both competitors shine. The aftermath of this match features Ohno making a face turn and apologizing to Regal, then moving on and feuding with the Wyatt family. This would be his last feud in NXT before heading back to the indies for the next four years.

Are you excited for Kassius Ohno's return to the WWE? Did you enjoy this match? Leave a comment!
