PWR Announces Participants For 20-Man Path of Gold Match

Who says the Philippine Wrestling Revolution doesn’t know how to keep things interesting?

Hot off John Sebastian’s epic PWR Championship defense against Jake De Leon and Peter Versoza’s stunning PHX Championship upset over Main Maxx at Bagong Yugto, the contendership scene is going to get even more bonkers with the announcement of the company’s trademark Path of Gold match at PWR: Path of Gold 2017 on February 26, 2017, at the Unilab Bayanihan Center on Pioneer Street, Mandaluyong.

The Path of Gold match is probably the toughest crucible anyone on the PWR roster can face. The rules are simple:

  1. Two competitors start off in the ring
  2. Every two minutes, a new competitor joins the fray
  3. Eliminations can come only via pinfall or submission, until a single wrestler is left standing
  4. The sole survivor wins the Path of Gold trophy and has a guaranteed title shot of his or her choosing at PWR’s biggest show of the year, Wrevolution X

But what makes this year’s edition even more intriguing than the prior 8-wrestler edition won by Jake De Leon is that 20 of the company’s top stars will be participating in this one. That’s pretty wild, folks. A wrestler may literally have to survive for 40 minutes if he or she has the misfortune of drawing #1 or #2, putting cardiovascular strength at a premium. That’s good news for such prime athletic specimens as Chris Panzer or Miguel Rosales, not so good for plodding big men like Rederick Mahaba or Vintendo.

Jake De Leon did not have fun in the first PoG.

PWR General Manager Mr. Sy has announced 16 of the 20 participants via social media, and even in incomplete form, we’re pretty sure we’re getting some top-notch action featuring the best PWR has to offer.

Currently on tap:

  1. Former PWR Champion Ralph Imabayashi
  2. Former PHX Champion Ken Warren
  3. Chris Panzer
  5. Crystal
  6. Rederick Mahaba
  7. James “Idol” Martinez of The Network
  8. "The Golden Boy" Chino Guinto of The Network
  9. Yohann Ollores of the YOLO Twins
  10. Logan Ollores of the YOLO Twins
  11. Miguel Rosales of Fighters 4 Hire
  12. Joey Bax of Fighters 4 Hire
  13. “The Walking Death” Mike Madrigal
  14. Vlad Sinnsyk
  15. “The Man-Doll” Martivo
  16. Robynn

The remaining slots should be filled up over the next three weeks. But with PWR Champion John Sebastian, PHX Champion Peter Versoza, “The Senyorito” Jake De Leon, The Apocalypse, and Main Maxx already booked for other matches, we don’t have a lot of other viable options for the open spots.

Who could reasonably fill up the other Path of Gold spots? Looking at the balance of the PWR roster, our choices are pretty thin:

  1. Bombay Suarez
  2. Alexander Belmonte III of The Network
  3. Kanto Terror
  4. Vintendo
  5. Keivan Skull
  6. Dax Xaviera of Delirium
  7. Dan Ericson of Delirium
  8. “The Machine” Mavericc Knight
  9. Mark D. Manalo

Considering these men are either on sabbatical, injured, enhancement talent, or very raw rookies, we’re not sure what kind of value they’d add to the Path of Gold match, unless as filler. Could Mr. Sy have something up his sleeve? A qualifying mini-tournament perhaps, or the unveiling of a brand-new PWR star? Could a fired or retired superstar be making a return to the company? We have no idea, to be perfectly honest, but that’s what makes the match so enticing.

Just to get you even more hyped, you can watch the full 2015 Path of Gold match won by Jake De Leon right here.

Who do you think is winning the Path of Gold match, Revo-Nation? And who do you think is filling up the remaining four spots? Let us know your thoughts, and we’ll see you on February 26!
