Rederick Mahaba: The Heart Of War

The road to greatness is paved by many paths. Twisting and turning, it branches out to find obstacles and tests of endurance. Only the strong-willed and hardy will get through. It matters not whether they stumble, only if they pick themselves up again later on. Waiting for them is not an end to their journey, but a challenge for greater heights.

Rederick Mahaba is one such warrior. He has battled The Network multiple times, faced off against a then-PWR Champion (pucha siya) and battled with future champions as well. What can be seen about him after all this time is a deeper understanding of the warfare in the wrestling ring. He may have started out as a conventional hoss, but his biggest advantage, his size, is no longer his only weapon. Slowly but surely, he is perfecting himself for greatness.

Move swift as the Wind and closely-formed as the Wood. Attack like the Fire and be still as the Mountain. (Sun Tzu, The Art of War)

When he debuted, The Intimate Warrior wore his heart on his sleeve. There was no denying what he desired. After all, he made it clear every time he stepped inside the ring.

Oftentimes, it lead to his downfall in matches. Whenever Scarlett was there, he was distracted. He would lose focus when victory was within his grasp. He would lay beaten, but oddly happy that he got even just a morsel of attention from the desire of his heart.

When she suddenly left the promotion in stunning fashion, he was able to focus on getting better-quality opponents. He finally rang up a string of wins, a sharp contrast to how he started. The experience left him a valuable lesson.

Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make our enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. (Sun Tzu, The Art of War)

After an unexpected attack by The Apocalypse at Path of Gold, Mahaba withdrew from the inaugural PWR Tag Team Tournament, citing injury. During the start of the PWR Live: Mainit main show, he announced his retirement, to the shock of many. His reasoning was that the attack had aggravated a pre-existing injury, forcing him to cut his wrestling career short as he was not medically cleared to continue. The news hit the Revo-Nation hard.

What happened next was pure genius.

All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. (Sun Tzu, The Art of War)

During a PHX Championship match that same night, The Apocalypse was about to end his title drought by defeating Peter Versoza for the gold. But with the champion and the referee both knocked out, Mahaba struck. Crowbar in tow, he laid waste to his Path of Gold attacker. Peter Versoza came to, and pinned the stunned Apocalypse for another succesful title defense.

Turns out, Mahaba was medically cleared. The "retirement" was merely a ruse to exact sweet revenge on his hated foe. He reversed the roles and created a situation wherein he had a higher rate of success in achieving his goal. It was a beautiful strategem, one that was well hidden with careful preparation.

"At Wrevolution X, I'm not just going to survive The Apocalypse," he announced to a delirious crowd, "I will end it."

It's asking a lot of Rederick Mahaba to outlast The Apocalypse—will his famed Jaccolade even work against a masked foe?—but if there's one thing we know about the King of Schlong Style is that as long as his heart is beating, he's never going to back down from war.

"Love wins," he mused on his Facebook page. "Love always wins."
