The Grapevine (5/17/17): You're Trying To Save Him, Stop Holding Your Breath

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the weekend.

There's some good news on your favorite Monster Among Men:

  • Despite Kurt Angle saying on RAW that Braun Strowman will be out for six months, he's actually doing better than that and will be back in time for SummerSlam in August. Braun is expected to return sometime in July to start building up a WWE Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar to headline the show. The original plans, which was to have either Seth Rollins or Finn Balor challenge Brock, will be moved to Great Balls of Fire. (Source: F4WOnline)

We say: Definitely interesting way to go about this, and it does look like Braun's going to be a monster face moving forward, especially if he's going up against Brock. We're also glad to hear that the injury isn't as bad as announced.

  • The relationship between WWE and former SmackDown play-by-play commentator Mauro Ranallo is apparently better now. It's being reported that most of the issues are now "water under the bridge," and there are still "open lines of communication" that would possibly see Mauro returning to the company. It's not a guarantee at all that he will be, however. Part of the settlement the two parties have agreed on is that the company will continue to pay Mauro until his contract runs out on August 12. (Source: WON)

We say: If Mauro's been able to forgive those who've wronged him, then cool, but it's still something we shouldn't tolerate in the business. Judging from the way he's not exactly raring to go back to his so-called dream job, though, it doesn't look like he's let everything slide. We wish Mauro the best, however—we just want the guy to be happy.
