Smark Henry Weekly Wrecap (6/24/17): Buyer's Remorse

After a loooooong week, we are back with another batch of steaming hot wrestling in a bucket with the Smark Henry Weekly Wrecap! We may have missed the Father's Day special, but that doesn't mean this week's wrestling won't make you cry papa, as we have a full brim of heartbreak and controversy.

And just like last time, we give you some of the must-follow/watch/digest/mark-out matches, storylines, and spots to break down so you would be kept you up-to-date before this upcoming week of wrestling!

Mo' Money, Mo' Problems

Dropping it like it's 1996

The past few years has shown a progressive and one-with-the-times WWE, mainly with the acceptance of some diverse characters like Darren Young, Jinder Mahal, (spoiler), and Mojo Rawley (right??) as well as the well-documented shift from Divas to Superstars in their quest to revolutionize mainstream women's wrestling.

Unfortunately, reality seeps in and as with typical WWE, acceptance can only get so far, as their knack for cheap heat, campy gimmicks, and obsession to create moments rather than furthering a storyline overshadows the intentions.

The Women's Money in the Bank match has been called a lot of things: a historical moment, a monumental travesty, out-of-the-box booking, an insult to women's wrestling; at the end of the day, people are abuzz and nuclear heat was created, so what more can WWE ask for (apart from maybe asking their fans for once)?

Hot or Not: Like Manila heat in June. If not for the Money in the Bank matches extravaganza, catch at least the Smackdown Tag Team Championship match between New Day and The Usos.

Chief Ro talks more about how MITB could've done away with the controversies and stuck to the plan on paper and let the Blue Brand's wrestling carry this PPV:

Seriously, catch it. Trust us.

Not All About Hype

Mojo Rawley. The gift that keeps on giving.

This week's episode highlighted the fate of the Women's Division. Since when has that happened? Despite the kerfuffle with the MITB match, the storylines now shift to making things right for the women, especially noting that this keeps the WWE Universe tuned in for next week's MITB rematch. The importance shown to this progression highlights how SmackDown Live keeps a tightly-run ship in terms of keeping things fresh. Which leads me to my second takeaway:

Hot or Not: Piping! Women on the forefront, outstanding wrestling by Ziggler and Nakamura, not to mention surprise appearances abound with sightings of Chad Gable, Luke Harper, and even Tye Dillinger! Interesting how easy it flew over our heads that we haven't seen much of these guys during the past weeks.

Resident SmackDown Live reviewer #NitPickRick fronts his honorary Fashion Police badge as he delves more on the women's issues and other vibes on the blue brand (excluding Randy Orton) here:

Racist Keith Orton when he lands in India

Black Mass Effect

NXT has been so-so lately, but by the looks of things, this new generation looks like to be on the upswing recently. Slowly but surely, NXT's game has been picking itself back up in its post-Balor era, especially when you find out about what went down during the tapings (spoilers here) or better yet, just base it off this amazing match between Kassius Ohno and Aleister Black.

Hot or Not: Asuka-levels! If this doesn't get your inner indie insides squirming or your casual consciousness shifting, then buddy, you've gone down a very dark smark hole already. If you want to set a schedule with our NXT main man, Jocs to save you from total smark-nnihilation, read up on his review of this week's episode:

Wrestling was popping off on all cylinders this week, with 205 Live, Ring of Honor's Best In The World, and so much more that we can't seem to fit in our current watchlist. Good thing you got yo' boys (and gal) here at the Smark Henry offices to keep you posted on what's hot or not.

See you next week for your weekly dose of wrestling going-ons!
