#ThemeSongTuesday: Velveteen

As promised in last week's #ThemeSongTuesday Midyear Report, here's our column that focuses solely on one of the better themes that CFO$ has produced in 2017:

Wow. It's catchy, sleazy, and cocky all in one package—pretty much the character that the Velveteen Dream has been showing us since he debuted on NXT.

From the "OW!" to him just announcing his own presence, and then him seemingly telling the band to "hit it," CFO$ gave the Wrestler Formerly Known As Patrick Clark a great hook to kick off his theme.

The beat, the loop, and the riffs all come together to resemble what could very well be CFO$'s homage to 70's softcore porn, allowing the Velveteen Dream to strut to the ring as only he can. Listening to it, I can't help but think of Val Venis' theme, which was as blatant as we got to a porn soundtrack on WWE TV for obvious reasons.

What sets "Velveteen" apart is that to a younger generation, the theme won't immediately give you the softcore porn connotation just because they'll be too young to know what that shit sounded like. I won't even blame a younger fan for just saying it sounds "vintage" because that was clearly what they were going for.

The Velveteen Dream is a throwback of a character—a Prince tribute, if you will. And even if you're not all that familiar with Prince's music, just Google him and you'll see the grandiosity of his persona being channeled into the Velveteen Dream. It oozes out of his very being from the moment his theme song plays and you get the feeling of wanting to sock the guy and put him in his place because of the abrasive arrogance clearly on display.

In a year of clear hits and misses for CFO$, "Velveteen" is a definite hit. We just wish CFO$ made more of an effort on their other themes, like that of Jason Jordan's, which just debuted on RAW earlier this morning.
