The Grapevine (3/8/18): 410 Live

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Two new championships are headed the WWE's way this year—one of them is already confirmed on NXT, but here's the other one:
  • There are plans for a WWE Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship. The current plan is to introduce the new titles after WrestleMania 34, when the vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship would be crowned in the finals of the current championship tournament. Here's the current design floating around, which is confirmed by a few "legit" sources: There's no word yet on when exactly and how the titles will be crowned. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: That explains why some tag teams are being highlighted (and created) on 205 Live as of late, but even though the cruiserweight division is deep enough for a tag team championship, why couldn't the women's division get tag titles as well? We suppose having two sets of women's tag titles would be too much for the main roster, but they wanted a huge locker room, so this is what they get. It would serve the women well to have something else to fight for when they're not competing for their respective women's championships.

As for the Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship's design, it's a little hard to judge it right now based on the sketches alone, but it looks like an NXT title right now. We assume it's going to have the same purple-and-silver colorway the Cruiserweight Championship has.
  • WWE wants to re-sign Alberto El Patron. He was at WWE headquarters recently to film material for an upcoming Rey Mysterio documentary, but he also met with Vince McMahon. Vince has always been high on El Patron, and has been interested in getting him back. Alberto's current contract with Impact Wrestling is expiring this April, and he's currently renegotiating his deal. It's reported that he's interested in staying with Impact Wrestling. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: Given the reasons why Alberto left the company in the first place, it's probably best for him to stay where he is. Even though the word is Vince likes him, they're more than likely to bungle his career in the WWE once more. (We don't need another Mexamerica angle.)
  • A new tag team will be facing The Bar at WrestleMania. It's not the Young Bucks, who appeared to have responded to the Bar's challenge, but apparently an entirely new team made of two singles Superstars who have not teamed previously. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: That's a tall order considering the state of the WWE's tag team division (featuring a lot of great teams waylaid by both champions) so they better make this new pairing worth it. In fact... why not just use the Undisputed Era?
