The Grapevine (3/9/18): WrestleMania Fleur-De-Lis Status Update

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

We've got some bite-sized WrestleMania updates for you:

  • Rey Mysterio's biceps injury is confirmed to be a Grade One partial tear. This doesn't seem to be as bad as was feared last Sunday, and it isn't stopping Rey from discussing his return with WWE. (Source: F4WOnline)
We say: This is really good to hear, and it looks like John Cena may still be getting his WrestleMania moment this year.
  • Although we noted in yesterday's Grapevine that the Bar is reportedly scheduled to wrestle a new tag team at WrestleMania, another report says they're not booked for a match. They could be part of the show as another angle, but this could still change as a lot of plans for RAW at WrestleMania are still yet to be finalized. (Source: WON)
We say: With the way the whole RAW tag team division has been booked to lose to the Bar, we're kind of not surprised.
  • While it seems that Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are heading toward a match at WrestleMania, the current plans for them are to be part of the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. As always, this could still change leading up to the event. (Source: WON)
We say: While we get that there may be too many things already going on in the card, this is a bad idea as it's still a WrestleMania-worthy match. Even though it's already happened many times, the roles being reversed here is intriguing enough to get it on the card.
  • Bobby Fish is out for six months to repair his torn ACL and MCL. This makes the finals of this year's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic a triple threat for the titles at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, with the finalists challenging the Undisputed Era (featuring Adam Cole instead of Bobby Fish) for the NXT Tag Team Championships. This also means Cole is pulling double duty at the show as he also will compete in the six-man ladder match for the new NXT North American Championship. (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: That's... insane, and a testament to how much work Adam Cole is willing to put in. Best wishes to Bobby Fish.
  • NXT stars Abbey Laith, Sage Beckett, and Guangming Gu were released from the WWE today. Laith and Beckett were last seen competing in the Mae Young Classic and some women's battle royals on NXT. Gu is a Chinese boxer that signed with the company back in 2016, and was known as Ming. (Source: F4WOnline)
We say: It's a shame that Laith and Beckett were released, as they were veterans who could've provided some real depth to a relatively young NXT women's division right now. It seems to be a fresh round of budget cuts in time for WrestleMania weekend. Poor guys, though.
