The MMC With Smark Henry: And That's Round 2

Okay, can you believe this tournament has been happening for around nine weeks now?

If you're still along for the ride, hello. Today marks the last episode of the Mixed Match Challenge's second round, in which Bobby Roode and Charlotte team up against real-life married couple Rusev and Lana. The Robe Warriors are trying to go for something like Team Little Big's ridiculous chemistry, but Bobby and Charlotte have about as much chemistry as a trigonometry textbook.

Seriously, their whole thing at this point feels quite forced. It looked decent on paper, but after a couple of episodes, they're just trying to mimic each other's and other people's schticks without much suave. Nothing is as one-trick a pony as Bobby and Charlotte, and the match is exactly what you'd expected it to be. Hey, at least Lana got to slap Bobby.

This is why the Rusevs should've just won this whole thing to begin with. In a tournament that doesn't mean anything more than a nice check to any chosen charity or foundation, where's the harm in putting over a team that has nothing left to lose? I'm already going to see Charlotte and Asuka face off at WrestleMania, so I would much rather see a matchup or permutation I know I'm not going to catch anytime soon.

Fortunately, everyone who's been eliminated in the first two rounds still have a chance to get back in the game via the second chance fan vote. The reason why they've been constantly showing Shinsuke Nakamura and Natalya watch the show backstage is because they pretty much want you to vote for them, and that's not a tall order. Only problem is they're not the only team I'd love to bring back.

Mixes and Matches

  • What is Beth Phoenix's role in the announce team, other than being a female voice? She doesn't sound anything like a broadcaster at all, as her voice is way too casual and conversational to be calling action. She doesn't even give any insight on the science of how women wrestle, which is the bare minimum I expected from someone as great as her. She needs to take more lessons from Graves.
