Tournament To Crown First MWF Champion Kicking Off At May Show

The king is coming.

After the Manila Wrestling Federation's much-heralded 2018 relaunch that's shown a singular new vision for the young promotion, one question that's been bugging #KapaFEDs has been when it would finally be crowning its inaugural champion.

After a few weeks of cryptic teasing on the company's MWF Insider blog, looks like we finally have an answer.

That's right, mga ka-smarkada. At MWF 2: Maki-Wrestling, Wag Matakot on May 27 at the UP Bahay ng Alumni, a massive tournament is kicking off to show who deserves to be the true standard-bearer of the Manilaverse.

The company seems determined to throw a wrench into everyone's predictions by having the two most likely candidates, the high-flying Robin Sane and the hulking Mr. Lucha, square off in the opening round, but that's the luck of the draw. Whoever wins that match should have a straight shot to the championship finals.

No word yet on what the rest of the tournament brackets will look like—that will be announced at the show itself—but the undefeated Fabio Makisig has to be a heavy favorite, as well as the always-dangerous Rex Lawin. Adding drama to the proceedings is the revelation that the tournament will be a year-long saga—no easy road for whoever the inaugural champ will be, mga ka-smarkada!

Other announced matches for Maki-Wrestling:

  • Life Coach Gus Queens will be making his ring debut against the University of the Philippines' own RG.
  • The enigmatic Ashura will be laying it all on the line in an epic match everyone has been screaming for, a to-the-death pillow fight (sigh) against the hypebeast Kyle Sison.
  • "Danger" Rex Lawin will be hosting a Celebration of Greatness with Queens.
  • Gigz Stryker will be treating everyone to a special screening of the sequel to his action film, Sagot Kita, Part 2.

Make sure to follow MWF on its official Facebook page for more updates on the Philippines' first live #AksyoNovela.
