The Grapevine (8/24/18): The Beast Has Left the Building

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

Where was Brock Lesnar after SummerSlam?

  • Brock Lesnar was not at RAW this Monday as he flew home right after SummerSlam. While he was advertised for the show, the PPV was his last scheduled date on his contract. Lesnar is done with WWE for now, but officials "would be happy to have him back" once his UFC run is over. The match with Roman Reigns happened exactly as planned, with Braun Strowman being at ringside to distract the crowd. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: Well, good luck with your future endeavors, Brock.
  • Brock's departure leaves Paul Heyman without a client, and one name brought up for him to manage is Ronda Rousey. This possibility had been discussed previously as Rousey expressed a wish for Heyman to manage her, and it was even explored before Lesnar signed his extension. However, there are claims that the partnership wouldn't work as Heyman managing Rousey means the latter would have to turn heel; the idea behind her signing is that she would be the babyface against Stephanie McMahon. (Source: WON)
We say: Heyman's exceptional at his job, so maybe there's a way to pair him up with Ronda without changing her alignment? Anyone can look like a face against Steph anyway.
  • Wale was featured on 205 Live this week to try and stop his WaleMania event on WrestleMania weekends from happening. The rapper has a working relationship with Major League Wrestling, which produces WaleMania, and WWE has been trying to sign talents from MLW. Wale working with WWE means that WaleMania happening next year is not likely. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: That sounds ridiculously petty, especially knowing how big of a wrestling fan Wale is.
  • The Rock is currently favored to win next year's men's Royal Rumble match. Really early betting odds for the show have been released by SkyBet. This follows buzz the Rock has been building about another WWE return. Right after Rock come Daniel Bryan (6/1), Seth Rollins (8/1), and Braun Strowman (9/1). (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: Okay, we totally found this absurd when we first heard it, but the more we think about it, the more we're liking the idea of cousin vs. cousin at WrestleMania 35.
