The Grapevine (9/7/18): One More Heartbreak

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the evening.

What's this news about Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement?

  • Shawn Michaels is reportedly coming out of retirement for one more match. The angle he and the Undertaker did on RAW this week, and a confirmed appearance at WWE Super Show-Down in Melbourne, Australia, are apparently to set up a future match at another Saudi Arabia live event on November 2. The company had reportedly tried to book him at the Greatest Royal Rumble, claiming that these Saudi events do much better than WrestleMania in terms of revenue. The rumored plan is to have Triple H and HBK team together against the Undertaker and a tag team partner.

HBK had previously stated that coming out of retirement for one more match would be "more trouble than it's worth," saying that there'd be no way to hide the fact that he's much older than the last time he was in the ring. He last wrestled at WrestleMania XXVI in 2010, losing against the Undertaker after putting his career on the line. (Source: WON)
We say: This is a pretty huge deal since HBK's been pretty adamant on staying retired. We're not sure if we want to see him step in the ring again since it has been eight years, but if guys like Ricky Steamboat can still do it and Shawn still looks damn good at 53, it may still be a good idea. Then again, it would be for a match that's ultimately inconsequential. Let's see.
  • Daniel Bryan has officially re-signed with the WWE. Despite the last deal running out on September 1, both sides have only just signed a new deal a few days ago. It turns out that Bryan would not have been able to leave if he wanted to this year, as the old deal apparently gave WWE an option to keep him for one more year if they wanted to. The new deal should be made official this week. (Source: WON)
We say: Well, tell us something we don't already know, since he's booked for Hell in a Cell. But still, here's to at least three more years of Daniel Bryan in the WWE.
  • Nia Jax is on the road to recovery as she was spotted training in the WWE Performance Center this week. Jax has been out with a leg injury, and she's been doing physical therapy at the PC. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: No wonder she's been missing. Get well soon, Nia.
