The Grapevine (11/30/18): The 2019 Goal-Setting Mailbag

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week.

There are a handful of bits about recent WWE plans:

  • FOX wants Ronda Rousey to be on SmackDown. The new home of the Blue Brand on October next year wants the RAW Women's Champion to be on their network, alongside a more sports-leaning format and the ability to more seamlessly cross-promote SmackDown and their other shows. While the Superstar Shakeup is usually a post-WrestleMania event, it could be interesting to see if the WWE holds it off to October, when the networks switch.

On a related note, UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier was invited to try out as a commentator for the WWE, but he has had to postpone it due to his title defense at UFC 230. The word is FOX likes Cormier and wants WWE to sign him, but he would still like to do a proper audition. (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: That's interesting, if a little worrying that FOX is already making demands before they're even officially carrying SmackDown already. Perhaps a run on the blue brand may actually be better for Rousey, but it does also have to mean that one of the strong ladies will have to move to a worse-booked RAW women's division. While that may be good for RAW, that may not be a good move for the person herself.
  • Elias was apparently supposed to win the Intercontinental Championship after Dean Ambrose turned heel on Seth Rollins. Those plans were shelved for reasons not known yet, but it seems that he'll be getting that huge push now. (Source: WrestleVotes)
We say: There's honestly not much to this rumor other than the fact that higher-ups are looking favorably on the Walker, but they did miss a good chance to put the title on him. The Rollins/Ambrose feud doesn't really need the championship, so you can hopefully expect the title going to Elias sooner than later.
  • The aftermath of SmackDown losing all its Survivor Series matches will still be visited soon. This will apparently happen in January, and will likely coincide with a big character change for SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon that also ties into his World Cup victory at Crown Jewel. (Source: WON)
We say: Well, okay. At least they're still telling a long-term story.
  • Aleister Black is apparently already being considered for a main roster call-up. There are rumors going around that he's being considered, but there are no further details given. Aleister got a chance to tour with the main roster during the European tour last May. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio)
We say: This seems to be one of those throwaway rumors to fill the show in, but this has been pretty obvious ever since Black lost the title to Tommaso Ciampa. It's only a matter of when and not if it happens.
