This Ain’t Bragging Rights: WWE Survivor Series 2018 Predictions

For the third consecutive year, RAW and SmackDown Live will once again battle for brand supremacy. And since we’re mere days from Survivor Series, it’s time we release our two weekly reviewers from their cages and have them duke it out with their predictions.

Chewing gum and taking names in the red corner is none other than
RAW’s Jofer Serapio! In the blue corner, facing him is the man who nitpicks everything, SmackDown Live’s very own Ricky Publico! Who will dish out the most plausible scenarios? Let’s find out.

RAW vs. SmackDown Live Exhibition Match: WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. WWE Champion Daniel Bryan

Jofer’s Pick: Brock Lesnar. RIP Daniel Bryan, because the reigning, defending WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is going to send you back to the injured list. Okay, that sounds a little harsh, but I mean, Bryan beating Lesnar? Come on, that’s not happening, especially since RAW badly needs a win after everything that’s happened to the WWE Universal Championship recently. This was all Paul Heyman getting in everyone’s heads, steering them all towards Suplex City to end the Daniel Bryan comeback tour.

Ricky’s Pick: Daniel Bryan. That’s right, I’m predicting a sweep for Team Blue! This one might be tricky, though. It’s highly unlikely that Brock Lesnar will lose against someone like Daniel Bryan. But at this point, anything is possible. Can you honestly say you expected Bryan to even be in this match a week ago? Yeah, I don’t think so. Survivor Series will be a night full of surprises and this could very well be the biggest shock win of Bryan’s career. Make it happen, Vince!

RAW vs. SmackDown Live Exhibition Match: RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair

Jofer’s Pick: The Baddest Bitch on the Planet, RAWnda Rousey. RAW is RAWnda, and for a good reason. The former UFC Champion and the current RAW Women’s Champion has been undefeated in singles action, barring any ringside shenanigans that Charlotte Flair can throw her way. What ringside shenanigans can Charlotte even bring at Survivor Series? Her dad? Ronda can flip him over like she did Triple H, Kurt Angle, and Baron Corbin. Sasha Banks and Bayley? Sorry, Charlotte, but Ronda has friends, too, and none of them got concussed by Nia Jax. (Don’t tell Becky I typed that.)

Ricky’s Pick: Charlotte Flair. Why are y’all fans of Ronda Rousey, anyway? What, because she’s a former UFC Champion? Uh, okay. I’d still pick Charlotte Flair solely because she’s Becky Lynch’s proxy. I’m also predicting that this match will plant the seeds for the much-anticipated Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen story somewhere down the line. And hey, it’s not like Sasha Banks and Bayley have anything better to do on Sunday. Maybe Baszler and friends will kickstart the feud, with Banks and Bayley serving as Charlotte’s backup. Make it happen, Vince!

Men’s 5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match: Team RAW (Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler, Finn Bálor, and Bobby Lashley) (w/ Team Captain Baron Corbin) vs. Team SmackDown Live (Team Captain The Miz, Rey Mysterio, Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, and Shane McMahon)

Jofer’s Pick: Team RAW, with Drew McIntyre as the Sole Survivor. It’s hard to predict Sole Survivors and I found myself wasting a few minutes between Drew and Braun Strowman. Strowman won last year’s Survivor Series with Triple H, but NXT's daddy is nowhere to be found this year. Meanwhile, Braun has Drew, Dolph, and Baron Corbin not entirely happy with him. My bet’s on Braun getting a Claymore Kick in the face, with Drew standing tall to bring him the brand supremacy bacon. That’s after Braun eliminates half of Team SmackDown Live, though. Can’t wait for Lio Rush to finally stand tall(er) over someone, right, Rey-rey?

Ricky’s Pick: Team SmackDown Livewith The Miz and Jeff Hardy as the Sole Survivors. This is a rather random yet specific prediction, but I’m sticking with it. I’m predicting that The Miz will remain a survivor out of pure dumb luck, while the likes of Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio do the heavy-lifting. You might think Team SmackDown Live doesn’t stand a chance against Braun Strowman, but c’mon. It’s not like he’s impossible to beat. I’m sure Samoa Joe can at least weaken Team RAW’s giant for the others to finish the job. And riddle me this: why does Team RAW need a chaperone?

Women’s 5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match: Team RAW (Natalya, Nia Jax, Tamina, Mickie James, and Ruby Riott) (w/ Team Captain Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan) vs. Team SmackDown Live (Asuka, Naomi, Carmella, Sonya Deville, TBD)

Jofer’s Pick: Team RAWwith Nia Jax and Tamina as the Sole Survivors. Oh, boo-hoo, Nia Jax concussed Becky Lynch, get over it, you marks (*discreetly un-clenches fists*). Team SmackDown Live doesn’t even have a fifth member, so I’m taking that as an omen. Plus, Team RAW has Sarah Logan, Liv Morgan, and Alexa Bliss at ringside. The other team’s going to be outmatched, outnumbered—and in the case of the Cousins of Samoan Destruction—outbigged. That’s a real word. No need to spellcheck that.

Ricky’s Pick: Team SmackDown Livewith Asuka as the Sole Survivor. Asuka’s road back to dominance should start somewhere. Survivor Series could be the perfect place to do just that. Let’s remind the WWE Universe why Asuka had the longest winning streak of the modern era. As for the last member of Team Blue, it’ll probably be Nikki Cross. Her addition to the team will make Team SmackDown Live a formidable team on Sunday. Plus, they are definitely more united than Team RAW. Why add two rivals to your team anyway?

RAW vs. SmackDown Live Exhibition Match: Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins vs. United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura

Jofer’s Pick: Seth Freakin’ Rollins. Dean Ambrose’s involvement in this match will be after Seth stomps Shinsuke’s head on the mat for the 1-2-3. How else could a Lunatic Fringe twist the knife deeper into the wound of his betrayal? Let Seth taste victory first, maybe even relish in it, like when they won the RAW Tag Team Championships, and while he’s drunk in celebration… Dirty Deeds from out of nowhere. Nakamura doesn’t even have anything going on back home. At least he’ll get a potential show-stealer with this one.

Ricky’s Pick: Shinsuke Nakamura. This one’s a doozy. This match will definitely be the low-key match of the night, but we all know Dean Ambrose will be involved in some capacity. I’m also predicting that this match will open the show. It’s only fitting we start Survivor Series strong with a freaking dream match. Who’s with me?

RAW vs. SmackDown Live Exhibition Match: RAW Tag Team Champions AOP (Akam and Rezar) (w/Drake Maverick) vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bar (Sheamus and Cesaro) (w/ Big Show)

Jofer’s Pick: AOP with 205 Live GM Drake Maverick. First thing’s first, Drake Maverick is a sexy name. That said, Sheasaro (lol) isn’t beating the former Authors of Pain, even if they got themselves a new heavy, who’s actually an old name in the massive burrito-stealing form of Big Show. Drake has actual strategy somewhere in that sexy head of his, and if things go terribly wrong, he can always summon an entire brand of athletic wrestlers (probably not happening but a man can dream).

Ricky’s Pick: The Bar with Big Show. Hoss fight! Sheamus and Cesaro will definitely have their hands full when they take on Authors of Pain, or AOP, as they are now billed. That’s just stupid. Anyway, I bleed blue, therefore I pick The Bar to win this match. And just look at each team’s backups. AOP’s got Drake Maverick, who’s basically a Cruiserweight. The Bar has Big Show, who’s bigger than both members of AOP. So yeah, I’m sure we've got this one in the bag.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match: Mustafa Ali vs. Buddy Murphy (c)

Jofer’s Pick: Buddy Murphy. Sorry, Mustafa Ali, you’re a great wrestler and you probably deserve the title by now, but I just can’t see anyone, including you, beating 205 Live’s Best Kept Secret. Maybe with that weigh-in, though. What’s Murphy clocking in now? 204? Wow. That’s so freaking close. Regardless, Murphy is a five-star wrestler and 205 Live should continue to work with him as the top guy. Just get some tag team titles already, Drake. What are you even waiting for?

Ricky’s Pick: Buddy Murphy. Mustafa Ali's eventual victory is a perfect feel-good WrestleMania moment so I’m cool with Murphy extending his reign here. Besides, I’m still enjoying Murphy as a badass champion anyway. Having a goody-two-shoes as a champion for months can be exhausting. Let’s ruffle some feathers once in a while, you know?

10-on-10 Tag Team Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Kickoff Match: Team RAW (Bobby Roode & Chad Gable, The B-Team, Lucha House Party, The Revival, and The Ascension) vs. Team SmackDown Live (The Usos, The New Day, SAnitY, Gallows & Anderson, and The Colons)

Jofer’s Pick: Team RAWwith Bobby Roode & Chad Gable as the Sole Survivors. Okay, I’m going to be really honest with you, guys. I’m only 45% sure Team RAW is winning this one. I’ve got to be honest. I mean, Team SmackDown Live has The Usos, The New Day, SAnitY, The Good Brothers, and… The Colons? They’re still employed? Well, I guess Team RAW gets a shot at winning this then. Compared to the other team, Team RAW is hungrier for this win, which will be great motivation for them to take it home. Does SAnitY even care about this whole brand supremacy thing? Why? Besides, Team RAW has two former NXT Champions (Bo Dallas was NXT Champion), four former NXT Tag Team Champions, one Cruiserweight Champion, and Curtis Axel was Intercontinental Champion at one point, right? The Colons… Ha! GG EZ

Ricky’s Pick: Team SmackDown Livewith The Usos as the Sole Survivors. While Jofer here is busy scoffing at The Colons (who are former tag team champions, by the way), he’s completely forgetting how Team SmackDown Live is captained by five-time tag champs in The Usos. Oh, and what’s this? We also have The New Day, another team with five tag team titles under their resume. And did I mention The Good Brothers are also former tag team champions? Team RAW’s lucky Erick Rowan is injured because this match would be over before it even starts.

There you have it! Our two weekly reviewers have spoken, terrible puns and mark-shaming notwithstanding. Whose side are you on? Do you bleed blue ot do you color it red? Show your team pride in the comments below!
