Smark Hen-XT (12/12/18) : Prince Puma Versus Prince Pretty

If anybody would have told me that Tyler Breeze would be main eventing a WWE-produced show in 2018, I would have laughed at that person and mocked him/her to death. Yet, here we are, watching this week’s episode of NXT wherein Prince Pretty not only main-evented the show, but also had a title shot to boot.

The episode showcased a Ricochet title defense for the NXT North American Championship in an open challenge, which Tyler Breeze answered. Right off the bat, Breeze would receive the adoration of the Full Sail crowd and would quickly get the crowd on his side—eventually being greeted with a big "welcome back" cheer by the loving crowd.

Interestingly, Breeze wore his Prince Pretty attire, with matching cellphone entrance. I have to admit, I missed the Prince Pretty gimmick as I felt this was one of the gimmicks that failed during the transition to the main roster.

The match itself was main event-worthy as Ricochet would prove to be a great match and competitor for Breeze, but I’d be willing to bet that nobody really expected the champion to lose his title this early in his reign—and to a visiting returning main roster call-up like Breeze nonetheless.

Safe to say, after a very grueling back and forth match, the end of the match would come when Ricochet mouthed off to Breeze that this [NXT] “was [his] now” and finished him with a modified Michinoku Driver. The champion would then offer his hand to Breeze with a show of respect to close the night.

All in all, it was an interesting night for the NXT Universe, one which opens the possibility of bringing back misused or underused talents from the main roster to give them another chance at reclaiming or achieving their star status. I truly hope this becomes a semi-regular thing down for NXT in the new year.

Grade: B

Not-So-Full Sails

  • I miss Adam Cole as champion. Somebody give this man a title!
  • I felt EC3 versus Bobby Fish was a match that had a lot of potential but was wasted by the finish. I truly hope that EC3 gets promoted and is given a main roster push *cough* on SmackDown Live *cough* as they seem to be using him to give the rub to Heavy Machinery.
  • Speaking of Heavy Machinery, Why does it feel like they have no chance at winning the NXT Tag Team Championships? They seem unconvincing as challengers.
  • Probably better as an #SGQ topic, Otis Dozovic looks weird while topless and in jeans. Tucker Knight carried the construction worker look well, though.
  • The Io Shirai and Dakota Kai pairing makes little sense to me like it's a random pairing for WWE 2K19's Universe mode. I just want to see Io competing for the NXT Women’s Championship.
  • As talented as The Mighty and Oney Lorcan/Danny Burch are, this felt like a match we'd see on WWE 2K19 between Generic Tag Team A and Generic Tag Team B. I find it hard to get behind both teams as I feel they need to flesh out their characters more. That Lorcan/Burch theme is fun though.
  • Am I the only one who loves these handycam promos? I love this promo style but I hope it doesn’t get overused.
  • The Mia Yim versus Reina Gonzales match was loud (in a talkative sense) and the trash-talking during the match made me enjoy it even more.
