#SGQ: A Fashion-ate Love

It's February 14th today and guess who's back for a special Valentine's Day edition of #SGQ? It's me, The Migz, and I'm here to give you my take on our favorite love-inspired Superstars and fashion choices. We won't be taking the most obvious reference (sorry, Greg Valentine) but we'll try to cover as much as we can. So without further ado, here we go!

"The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels

The obvious choice to start the article is our favorite showstopper and WWE Hall of Famer, Shawn Michaels.

Back in the early 90's, HBK got the singles push he so rightly deserved and threw his former partner Marty Jannetty through a glass window. This was the beginning of his Boy Toy persona and his ascent to the main event picture.

Some say that it was Curt Hennig who came up with the eventual "Heartbreak Kid" moniker, but even without the nickname, Shawn Michaels was truly one of those people who'd be able to break your heart with his boyish charms and oozing sex appeal. His choice of attire was also a sight to behold so there's that reference.

Mike and Maria Kanellis

"Here's to the greatest (greatest)..."

Maybe Mike hasn't made much of an impact in the WWE universe, but he and Maria have been touted as the greatest love [you've] ever known. The real-life couple was brought to the WWE as a premier power couple that would bring the power of love in the ring.

Mike's attire (as with Maria's) has always been blatant in showing how much they love each other as the jackets have been smothered with kiss marks all over. The pink variation of the attire makes the Valentine's Day reference more obvious.

Brother Love

Most people don't really remember Bruce Prichard or the man known as Brother Love. He mostly participated in talk show segments, as a manager, and had his very own "The Brother Love" Show wherein he would interview wrestlers and eventually cause enough friction between Superstars to start or continue feuds and rivalries.

He is mostly remembered for having a weirdly reddish face tan along with his signature white and red suit and tie combo, while shouting his catchphrase "I love you!"

Bret Hart and the Hart Foundation

Okay, so maybe this is cheating. Maybe Jimmy Hart (no relation) is guilty by association. When your name is Hart, then the easiest reference to make is, well, a heart.

"The Pink and Black Attack" has brandished himself (and the group) with variations of the heart logos with skulls and wings to keep their edge because hearts aren't really that scary. Not to mention, the choice of colors aren't really threatening. However, Bret and the family have made pink and hearts a part of their attire for generations to come and now, the stigma of wearing the color and the logo is gone.

"Sexual Chocolate" Mark Henry

The World's Strongest Man has had a storied career in the WWE. From being a member of the Nation of Domination to being the sole inductor of Superstars into the Hall of Pain, he has brought so many different looks over the years. One of which could be considered as very memorable in Sexual Chocolate.

I can always hear the music staying in my ears, "It's sexual baby, huyeaahhh," every time Mark Henry made his way in his Hershey's Kisses inspired singlet. He may not be what you want sexually, but he brought a lot of good memories to my younger wrestling self. Do note that it does include Mae Young giving birth to a hand.

Viscera

Speaking of big men with strong sexual drives, Viscera was another one of those shoe-horned into that role. After being a threatening monster heel through his run with the Ministry of Darkness, he became the World's Biggest Love Machine in the mid-2000s and had some memorable and funny moments before becoming a threatening monster heel once again as Big Daddy V in WWECW.

His most memorable storyline during this Love Machine phase was one involving his and Lilian Garcia's relationship, which capped off with a failed marriage proposal. Two things were memorable for me personally: (1) his violet and/or gold pajamas and (2) his dry hump move from the SmackDown games.

Rest in Peace, Big Vis!

Rederick Mahaba

Segueing from that last entry, PWR's resident love machine may have hung up his boots in the meantime, but make no mistake, he's made so many love references during his career that it might be too many to list down.

The Basted Club originator wore his white (or black) and red colors with love and pride, but  we can't forget about that robe he used to don. It was a subtle nod to antics done behind closed doors. That, or maybe it was just a robe to accentuate the fact that he was a sensual man deep inside.

Either way, we'll never know now, as he changed his character to Mainstream Mahaba prior to his hiatus, but we sure hope to see him back again sometime soon as he still has unfinished business with his former MTNH partner, PWR Champion Ralph Imabayashi.

Quick Hitters

Val Venis

Val Venis was your edgy pornstar character, an expert in love-making. His ring gear wasn't any special but the towel implied there was something more.

The Heart Throbs (Romeo and Antonio)

Does anybody remember these two? No? Well, they were presented as the Heart Throbs, so there. They were good-looking Chippendale dancers who weren't really that memorable.

Billy and Chuck

The ambiguously gay duo from the Ruthless Aggression area wore a lot of pink (or were they red?) tights. They wore it well though, so kudos to them for being able to rock the gear.

Rick Rude

Remember when Rick Rude wore Jake "The Snake" Roberts's wife's face on his tights? Yes. You don't mess with another man's wife, Mr. Rude. Jealousy can bring out the worst.

"The Narcissist" Lex Luger

Because self-love is important, Lex Luger gets a shout-out here. I loved the gimmick where he had mirrors just so he could appreciate himself. Classic.

The Basham Brothers and Shaniqua

It's a stretch, but Valentine's does have to do with love and making love, so if you remember the time the Bashams were with Shaniqua, you might remember their NSFW attires.
