The Grapevine (3/1/19): Bits and Pieces

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Here's some of what we know about the things that happened this week:

  • Tommaso Ciampa is dealing with a neck injury, keeping him out of action. This injury forced some rewrites to RAW and SmackDown this week, most especially the advertised match between Johnny Gargano and Cesaro. Ciampa has been dealing with the injury for around a month, and if it gets worse the plans for the 2019 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and NXT TakeOver: New York may have to change. (Source: Wrestling Inc)
We say: That's really unfortunate, especially with the opportunities on the table for Ciampa. We hope he gets well soon.
  • WWE extended the Hardys' contract by one more year. The company invoked a clause that would roll the deals over one more year; otherwise, the contracts would expire next week. It's also worth noting that Matt Hardy will not be using the Woken gimmick for this run. The third year would also see them receiving a pay increase. (Source: PWInsider)
We say: Could this be another don't-go-to-AEW move? In which case, the WWE was smart to keep them around as AEW would probably benefit from the Broken gimmick.
  • Hiromu Takahashi is set to make his comeback from injury soon. NJPW will reportedly make a big deal about his return, which will begin with an official announcement from him at an upcoming show. (Source: WON)
We say: Great news for the former champion and last year's Best of the Super Juniors winner.
