The Grapevine (3/22/19): Reangling

Good morning, and this is the Grapevine! This section of Smark Henry is where we round up all the founded and unfounded rumors abound the pro wrestling scene that you may have missed over the week. Remember to take everything with a grain of salt!

Kurt Angle versus Baron Corbin did not get the reaction WWE expected:

  • The Kurt Angle/Baron Corbin match for WrestleMania is now reportedly being reconsidered. WWE officials apparently did not expect such an overwhelmingly negative reaction to the announcement; they don't want a negative feel to Angle's last match. (Source: Wrestlevotes)
We say: Interesting that they're actually choosing to listen to the fans here. They've got time to fix it with around two weeks left 'til the show, but they probably should have known better.
  • Matt Hardy is trying to push for a new gimmick. The V1 and Big Money Matt teasers are apparently leading to the MULTIFARIOUS Matt Hardy, which would see him change between his various personas from his career, including Woken Matt. There's no word yet on whether WWE would go through with this change. (Source: WON)
We say: Given how beloved most of his characters are, we feel like this is a good idea that would highlight how Matt has been prolific in his career.
  • WrestleMania 35 is expected to have 17 matches. There are apparently a few more matches that haven't been finalized on WWE TV just yet. The need to boost employee morale is apparently what's driving WWE to try to include as many people as possible. This may result in the longest PPV of all time. (Source: Wrestling Observer Radio, Forbes)
We say: Get ready for a behemoth of a show. If you're watching live with us at the official WrestleMania 35 Viewing Party, you might have to take a whole day off just to get through it all.
