#ThemeSongTuesday: AYAN NA SI DADDAX!

Vendetta 2018 was a great time for PWR fans who are obsessed with wrestlers' entrance themes because not one, not two, but three new themes were dropped last November. Our entrance theme for the Mr. Sy Group of Talents (MSG) was the subject of last week's #TST, and this week, we're featuring another one of those themes—one that belongs to a champion who retained his title at Path Of Gold 2019.

All Out War Champion Dax Xaviera comes out to "XX," one of the pinakamalupit na theme songs in PWR's music catalog today. Produced by PWR bootcamper Fidel de Jesus and Benjo Juni, the song sounds like a stadium anthem in the making with an infectious riff. "I let Fidel de Jesus and Benjo Juni arrange the music," Xaviera recalls. "But I made sure na makukuha ko 'yung feel na gusto kong marinig sa final output." He tells us that the song went through at least two or three revisions before the final cut we hear blaring at PWR shows today.

"XX" is meant to illustrate the evolution of Dax Xaviera, which the champ tells us is an ongoing process. He shares that his old theme used to evoke apathy from the Revo-Nation, much like his former character used to. "So this [new theme] shows that the character has gone through a massive transformation," Xaviera says. "Nandoon pa rin 'yung tribal Dax Xaviera. Nag-level up or na-modernize lang, tipong Final Fantasy VII or VIII na makalumang makabago." He adds that the theme itself is open to whatever future interpretations of the Dax Xaviera character arc.

J-rock fans might recognize that it sounds a lot like the hook from L'Arc~en~Ciel track "XXX" and it's by design. Xaviera himself confirms the similarity because he is a huge L'Arc~en~Ciel fan himself, calling it the "sexiest song ever." He chose the hook on "XXX" as the foundation for his theme because he didn't want to have a generic-sounding entrance theme. "Hangga't maaari, gusto ko 'yung music na swabe lang at hindi masyadong heavy metal," shares the All Out War Champion.

Dax's musical influences are very much in this track, with L'Arc~en~Ciel being the most obvious one as the All Out War Champion remains a huge fan of their earlier work. While he is a huge fan of rock music in general—Dax can go from 80's glam rock and hair metal (Queen, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses) all the way to electronic acts from this decade (MGMT and CHVRCHES)—he has a soft spot for Japanese rock. He's particularly fond of the Visual Kei movement, in which one sees Japanese band members and public figures wearing elaborate makeup and flamboyant costumes, which we've seen being manifested little by little in Dax's PWR outfits in the past.

Over the last 12 months, Dax Xaviera has undergone a reinvention of his character, going from a generic, athletic babyface to unveiling a nasty, unhinged, and insane side of himself since turning heel. He remembers coming out to silent crowds, "Tipong jobber entrance," he recalls with a sigh. "Then after [turning heel], bino-boo na ako ng mga tao. Sobrang thankful ko lang na people finally see me differently because nahanap ko na rin 'yung tamang formula with the Dax Xaviera character."

Its evolution has taken on a life of its own, spawning "DADDAX!" chants from the Revo-Nation at the shows. "It's really a surreal feeling kasi matagal-tagal din bago ako nagkaroon ng sarili kong chant," Dax says. "Nakakatuwa lang din na nag-evolve siya from 'Ah, si Dax,' to 'AYAN NA SI DADDAX!'"

Dax Xaviera has come a long way since being one-half of Delirium alongside his erstwhile tag team partner, Dan Ericson. He's stepped his game up and has made an impact as one of PWR's rising stars, proving every single time he appears at a show that indeed, Dax Xaviera has arrived. AYAN NA SI DADDAX!

Which local entrance theme would you like to see in a future edition of #ThemeSongTuesday?
